I’ve sized up C6 Z06’s. Good base, but they ‘re going on 20 years old, and some of the deferred maintenance isn’t cheap or simple. With the Camaro you can get a modern car with a warranty that covers track use for not a lot more money.

You meant C5, right?

Yep- C5. Fat fingered that one.

I believe this is correct. And only if you follow their maintenance schedule / requirements.

Correct on all fronts. Have to have a 1LE 2.0T or V6 or any SS and Above trim. And have to follow track warranty requirements.

1le’s are just too hard to find where I live. And they will probably be priced in the mid 30’s with zero discount.
i will be looking at what cooling options are out there, either 1le retrofit or aftermarket.
Why would it be in the mid-30s? A 1LT with the 4 cylinder, manual, and 1LE package has an MSRP of $30,995.
I'd call a dealer and ask if they can get you one, or if they will order you one. I got a great deal on my special order Mustang GT Track Pack years ago. Put down a $1000 deposit, it gets delivered I pick it up.
The dealership gets an easy sale without the car having to sit on their "floor plan," IE them paying toward it, at all.
No on seems to love them - but I've seen crazy deals on the v6-1le. And just check the lightning lap for it, they complain about "not a v8," but if you want to spin laps and make more expensive cars cry lap after lap it seems like the ticket. The 6cylinder in it is an awesome, well proven engine used in "all the things." (including miatas now...) The 4 cylinder has always seemed a bit silly in light of the v6, it'll make more sense when they're way out of warranty, cheap, and you tune them without worrying, but until then - it just seems like a bad idea.

I just sent an e-mail to ask the salesman. I expect that anything with the 1LE package will also have a bunch of other options added that kicks the price up.
OK. Be patient and order one, if they can't find any, if that's what you really want.
If you aren't willing to be patient for one, than you may not REALLY want one as bad as you think.
That's what I did when I ordered mine. "I want a '13 Mustang GT, Base, Manual, white, Track Pack, no other options. Here is the deposit check."
In reply to jj :
Are you really hell-bent on new? When I was casually looking I found several with ~10k miles for steep, steep discounts - still with the factory warranty.
I recently had a horror show 6th gen Camaro SS. I don't mean to chime in on every Camaro thread, but I had major issues getting GM to truly honor the warranty with street only driving (>100 days in service in 8 months, never fixed). After reading all of the appropriate documentation, to the best of my knowledge GM does not document a track warranty with SS+/1LE models. There are comments from GM employees through various media suggesting they will honor the warranty after track use. It might be reasonable to assume my experience was an edge case, but based on my experience I would not trust GM to honor the warranty after track use, which is also an edge case.

I guess it has more to do with availability. Not many used manuals near me. Zero used 1LEs within 500 miles.
My dealer just responded. Found a 1LE in silver with technology package. Will sell for 29,800. Be here in 2 days. Now I have to ask the boss what she thinks.
BOOM!
This is why I constantly tell people to actually talk to their local dealer vs going off MSRP on the website or other people's negative experiences.
If the BOSS gives you the OK, I bet you can negotiate the price down further with something like, "If you can do a bit better than that, I'll come down this afternoon to do the paperwork" or a deposit or something else to show your serious.

Lots of Kappa engines and trans available - no need to wait on a Camaro 2.0.

Same engine has been used in the Malibu, Regal, ATS, and CTS for the last few years. I think I read to avoid 2013 ATS as there were some piston problems, but later seems to have been resolved. There aren't many manual transmissions, but the engines themselves are not hard to find
jj said:Stock struts are also slotted. I was able to get a little over 2 degrees of camber up front.
Thats awesome.
jj said:The 1LE weight with 3/4 tank is 3340.
Oh awesome, I didn't realize this was your lowkey way of saying you actually picked it up!
How do you like it so far?
Looks awesome!
I really enjoyed the SS 1LE I drove back in the end of '17. The ergo's were perfect for me, outside of having the larger blind spots in the 3/4 panel area.
Went back in the thread to find these onerous service intervals that you must maintain in order to keep up your warranty when tracking a 1LE.
spacecadet said:The 1LE 2.0T and V6 track warranty is very straightforward. don't modify the car and you follow the specified fluid change intervals in the Owners Manual. It's like a 7-8 qt 0W40 full syn oil change for the motor every 4 hours on track. Which is not cheap.. but it keeps you under warranty and keeps the car happy, which I see as a win all the way around.
7-8 quarts of synthetic for 4 hours of track time seems awfully cheap to me, if the other consumables (pads/rotors/wheel bearings) are inexpensive or robust enough that they aren't needed frequently.
And I'd probably want to change the oil that often anyway, warranty or no.

Yeah, that's right around 3 track days typically?
I mean, if you're already tracking a $30k car, with expensive tires and brakes, and you need to do these oil changes..........if that's too expensive to keep your warranty............buy a Miata.
Because I guarantee if I was buying a 1LE to track with, I'd also be buying track insurance incase I, or someone else, smashes it up.

No E36 M3. $30k may be cheap for a new car that has a significant percentage of awesome, but it's not something most people could walk away from if it got totalled.
jj said:However I can't find anything in writing about the "track" warranty. I know several magazines stated this, but the owners manual says competition will VOID the warranty.
HPDE isn't technically competition. Although AutoX technically is.

Did anyone else mentioned that on page 2. ;)
When GM was busy trying to not fix my vehicle, I think 5 different people explained to me the different ways they attempted to find a way to void my warranty. Did you tune the car? You tuned the car, right? We're going to find out, did you tune the car (after they couldn't, because I didn't)? Here's your 9th set of 100k mile spark plugs, have a nice day. If you want to track your vehicle, I would operate under the assumption there is no warranty and be pleasantly surprised if they honor it.

Yes this concerns me now :)
It shouldn't, I have multiple friends tracking ZL1 1LE's and have had no issues once the dealer confirms no tune and mods installed.
They also keep imaculate records.
