For work 150k we expect to double thatin 3 years, for play idc as I will upgrade most of it anyway
REally depends on the car, the condition, how it's been maintained and the kind of miles it has. A 4 year old car with 100k miles on it doesn't bother me as it's been a highway car that's likely been maintained to some moderate degree. a 4 year old car with 30k on it? I would run like hell. That one's either been sitting for long periods of time, or spent it's entire life in short stop-n-go trips. Both are extremely hard on a car.
All depends on price. A $500 car with 250,000? Sure.
A $5000 car with 250,000? Nope. Not unless its an AE86 hatch with a swap.
Very car specific to me. As well very repair specific. In this case, a Toyota 3.0 V6, I'd want to know when the head gaskets were last done, or when the engine was replaced.
Depends on the car. I bought my diesel ram with 150,000 miles on it without batting an eye. I also bought a newer GTI just out of warranty and it proceeded to live up to its reputation as a VW. Usually 100,000 miles is where I have to start looking things over more carefully
I love high mileage vehicles, because people are scared of them and the value drops through the floor. Lots of negotiating room.
I just buy with enough wiggle room to have a contingency fund.
I bought my diesel trucks at 170k (Chevy), 215k (Dodge), and 240k (Ford). The one with 240k is the best as far as reliability and was far and away in the nicest condition. I daily drive it, its an 02 F250 with the 7.3 Powerstroke. Just keeps going and going and going.
The Ford came from down south, so it looked like brand new inside and out, I figure I can drive it till it gets rusty, have it bodyworked, drive it till its rusty again, and send it down the road. At that point it will be knocking on 400k based on my yearly usage and still worth 5 grand.
I bought my 97 montero with 205k miles on it, but it had dealer papers for every 60k service and I knew what the problems were thanks to a great seller (burns oil. like all mitsubishis Less than a quart per oil change but it does smell!)
My ranger had 120k when I got it and was in much worse condition. Definitely condition over mileage and then take into consideration make/model.

I'd be ok with a high mile RR air cooled German car, VWs and 911s, if it has silly miles on it its probably been slowly rebuilt its whole life.

Land Cruisers have always gone for stupid money. I challenge you to find one in the same condition, cheaper that's not 2,000km away.
