I had a brown '77 Scirocco, CIS, might have had orange carpets, it was in the late 80s. Didn't know there was a Super version... Interior looked just like yours.
What happened to this car? That post is from 2011!

Yes, the SuperScirocco was sold to former GRMer Tom Heath, as part of the deal with I acquired the GRM project Miata. (with Flyin Miata goodness)

I can't keep em all, and after the VW sat dormant for a while, I decided to send it along to a better home. Tom has since sold it to a VW enthusiast, so hopefully it will live on.
I came to the conclusion that although I love these Mk1 Sciroccos, what I really wanted was a 78-81 model. (I prefer the wrap-around turn signals and the 80's riffic bumpers) If I was going to go all out in building one, I really should have started with the car I really wanted.
On the bright side--- I still have the Miata, and after a long time sitting dormant--- it's getting healthy again!

In 1976 I went with my brother to the VW dealership, where he was buying a new Rabbit. While he was busy with the salesman I was in the showroom drooling over a Scirroco. A few years later my college roommate had a 1979 Scirocco special edition, the one with Recaro seats with plaid inserts. That was a sweet little car.
I had an 81 that I bought right out of college. (I graduated in 93) I drove that little thing as far East as Cape Cod, as far South as Boca Raton, as far North as Ely Minnesota, and as far West as Tuscon AZ. Man I loved that thing....... I ended up selling it to a GRM reader at a Challenge friendly price---- as the idea was for it to compete at some point. Hopefully he still has it, and it will live again!
If you want one of these, buy one now. Good ones are getting very hard to find, and they are starting to bring real money. Great little cars, with a ton of room inside. I still miss mine!
My wife has enough trouble dealing with the CRX, I'm not sure she could handle a Mk1 Scirocco. But man, they look SO good. The Mk2 doesn't do that much for me, the Mk1 is beautiful.
^^ agreed--- I could never warm up to the MkII, even in 16v guise. The Mk1 cars, especially the late ones are fantastic looking---- very much an Italian design.
I have a strong preference for the Mk2 model but I wouldn't kick a Mk1 Scirocco out of bed. Actually I would, because cars belong in the garage, what the hell, I can't sleep in this.
I've noticed a sharp appreciation in asking prices lately; obviously not in selling prices since they wait around for a long time even compared to other 'unloved' VWs like the Corrado.
I remember looking at those new. I was so tempted as with the 16v motor it was on paper faster than a 944. I got the 944 and it was down hill from there.
Miss mine. 81s. Did the ABA 2.0 beneath a 1.8 8v head with 2h 5speed. Bilstein HDs with 400 lb front and 350 rear springs and no front bar. Loved that car. Named it Millennium Clyde. Ran it in Street Mod in ATL back at the turn of the century. Would love to have another. Anyone want to trade for my 83 Gti IT car?

I can't remember the last time I saw a sirocco in the wild that was not stanced, rusted intentionally, and generally destroyed by the kids who think it is fun to make their cars undriveable.
