A 77 Monza 2+2 followed me home from South Carolina yesterday. Factory V8 auto car .We are having many evil thoughts most of which involve a hot new small block and some sort of Dekon kit. Don.t know if you can even get one anymore but Spyder stuff still seems to be around. First step is to fit 5 lugs so we can run our C4 wheels and Michelins. Any Recommendations? experience with one?
Now that's the H body's I'm talking about!
I thought S10 stuff was a close swap front and rear, to get good brakes and stronger axle. I sold my 72 Vega just as the Internet was becoming a thing so I didn't get much tribal knowledge beyond Hot Rod Magazine and the junkyard.
Def needs better brakes if you don't go Full tube front end.
Battery in the spare tire well is an easy win. Donut spare fit ok under the cargo cover in my Vega. With an iron headed 350, my wagon weighed 2750lb 55F/45R
Careful. You’ll jab your eye out with that.
I had one. First car owned. Crazy fast for the day (‘86). Too much for me. It swapped ends when I went into a curve too hot chasing a CB-750. We pulled the “5-liter” later and the weird thing somebody pointed out (I didn’t know the difference) was that it had 6 freeze plugs.
I learned later that that’s usually a dead give away for a 400 SBC. No wonder it would scoot even with the tiny little Rochester dual jet.
Just getting to look the car over properly today and found more pieces of its drag racey history. Thats cool but not my thing. So it has already come to how much tire and wheel can we run. Answer looks like VERY little. Like 215 14 max. Of course I am completely gaga over the Dekon cars and thats where we want to go eventually. Like you know if parts are still out there... Unless someone knows about other flare options?
Check the Pro Touring forums - they have an H Body section and someone there should be able to help you out.
I squeezed 235-14's on my Vega with junkyard 5 slot mags. Don't recall the series (60?) but they were beefy boys and just needed rolling of the fender lip. Hooked up well enough to break one of the 10 bolt rears I had in it.
195/50-14 up front on 7" wide rims, too. It handled alright for what it was. No power steering or brakes. Eesh.
