BTD, what RAL color did you use? I've been thinking dark green on a gold chassis would look great.
I went with RAL 6009 (Fir Green) after seeing some samples. I found there were some variances on what different sites showed as far as color so I got my hands on a sample book.
I'll likely be doing a silver frame, though gold is interesting.

Sean, I think you might be mounting the side panels too far forward. It's actually one of the top questions we get from builders. The acrylic is supposed to rest behind the front edge of the steel tube up front. This is to allow the steel tube to take impacts from rocks and debris rather than the panel. You should be able to find a happy spot that puts the hole on every tab. We have a steel jig plate that goes on every car to place those tabs, and it's laser cut to the same spec as the side panels.
This also should answer questions about air gaps on the panels. The side panels have a small gap to eliminate buzzing and abrasion.
Kevin will contact you on the headlights.
Just a thought:
How far off spec are the holes and what were the temperature differences between Atlanta and where the car is being assembled? Plastic can move a lot with temperature changes.
In reply to BTD:
I'll have to order a sample. The exomotive link shows that as more of an olive drab color. The green/gold idea is from the 50th anniversary Elise and is more if a pale/old gold than bright gold.

10 minutes from the airport, eh? Whats going on in the world of Exomotive Wednesday around 9:30AM? Lol it would be nice to swing by for a few and check things out! Not sure how much of a PIA it would be though as I have never been to the ATL airport and I hear its pretty massive.
We've actually got that part of Wed morning scheduled for shop tours, so that could actually work perfectly. Just ride the Skytrain to baggage claim, grab a taxi, and send them to the address on our website (1154 Oakleigh Dr).

Good thinking, but the CTE of cast acrylic would only put it off by 1/16" along the length of the panel with a 50F temperature change. That's why they come with generous grommets. There's further analysis here. Sean, if you see this, can you PM me pictures? I don't have your contact info.

Definitely do. Mine is meant to be more of a dark olive color by choice, hence the silver frame. If you're looking for more BRG, one of the lighter/brighter greens is for you.

Sounds like this visit could work! Now if only the weather in the Gulf would clear up so I can fly off of this drill ship and make it home in time to pack for my flight Wednesday! Hope to meet you guys Wednesday if all goes well, Warren!

What does this mean for those of use who have received the Exocet but not the body parts? Both in terms of timing and in terms of options. Since I haven't been asked what color I want my body yet, I'd sure like it in carbon

Sorry, but for now, the carbon option is hypothetical. We won't get to play with that until we crank out many, many more sets. Even at their high production rate, that will take until the rest of the year. From my understanding, our orders are in the triple digits.
Expect the carbon option to cost in the multiple thousands. Downing and I want to do it right, which means completely different materials to choose from (carbon, aramids, s-glass), a good bias stackup, appropriate core, vacuum bagging, and a proper oven-cure process. If you just want the carbon look, 3M makes some great vinyl. I'm not being sarcastic, it's a legitimate option that won't cost anywhere near as much.
warren i will take pictures tomorrow night. Can you email me at mrvwcastner@yahoo.com ?

There will be another Exocet in Oregon. Just placed an order. Going with a sport kit. Not sure on colors or donor yet. Just figured I will have plenty of time to figure the details out while I wait.

For those looking for easy way to tow the Exocet (whether open or enclosed trailer) - by using e-track and ratcheting straps make it a cinch to load and secure.

Well let me know when you are ready to make the carbon body, I am willing to pay to play.

that photo makes me nervous. I know the exocet is light, but relying on the screws into the plywood to hold the car in place... i dunno.
In reply to bluej:
If you read the link it is actually a bolt through the plywood with a large fender washer on the bottom to spread the load. This is actually a pretty standard way to tie down a car.
How wide is the inside of your trailer? Mine is 7x7x16 but the lift cables of the rear ramp take some of that away.
Also, can anyone that received their unit (or Warren) tell me the size of the pallet it ships on? I know it isn't that heavy but I need to know what trailer to bring with me to pick it up from the shop. THANKS!
Pallet is 11'x5'. Give it another inch on each side just in case.
Thanks Warren..... just measured the cables ad I'm at 71" inside! Yeah me!
Warren,
Is there anything noteworthy happening with the V8 build ? Maybe even an ETA of when it will be drivable ?
I made it through Atlanta but my layover just wasn't quite long enough to break away from the airport and hitch a taxi to visit you guys. I'm thinking that a road trip to Atlanta would be a lot easier as far as time retraints. Would love to come around the time that the V8 is nearing completion and make my deposit that day.

It's chugging along, but of course we have a lot of other things going on. We'll be installing the motor/trans/front subframe assembly tomorrow. It should be a roller within the next week. We're still waiting on axles, and wiring/plumbing will take a few man-days.

7' wide and the cables take about 2 " out of it. I loaded the Exocet on the trailer in the pallet with no issues as the pallet is much narrower than a Miata's wheelspan.
And yes to above I each 2.5' section has 26 bolts with 1 1/2" wide fender washers underneath and it won't budge - and securing the car at all 4 corners and it won't move...ever!
In reply to Warren v:
Sounds like you guys are making solid progress! I sure can't wait to see what it's capable of =) what's going in the rear ? Getrag ?
