A heads-up to you hardcore sports car forum fanatics:
Starting at 11 p.m. Eastern time, Thursday, June 6, the site will be down for about an hour. We're getting a big server upgrade with more cores, storage, a major bandwidth upgrade, and so on. Pour one out for the old Compy 386.
If you're here and it's 11:15 p.m. on Thursday, you can't read this. Hopefully you'll instead spend your time making autocross memes to post when the site is live again at midnight.
We apologize for any inconvenience.
Which time zone? Yours or ours?
You do realize that many people are still up and playing on the internet at 10:00 in the Central Time Zone.
Do you realize what you'll be doing to those poor people in Cali? They already are ding dongs, what will this do to them?
I think you need to wait till about 3:00 a.m. No one is up at that hour and if they are they probably won't even notice.

That's OK, nobody can see your embarrassment unless you have a TV show on NatGeo .

Look closely and you'll see the answer you seek re: time zone.
Yes, we realize plenty of people are still on the internet at that time. But I've reviewed our traffic data and talked to our programmers. People don't work very effectively at 3 a.m. There's a very sharp drop in our site traffic after 10 p.m., and traffic is slightly lighter later in the week.
11 p.m. Eastern is the best compromise between the needs of our site users and our programmers. We've thought this through pretty well. Thanks for your concern.
Autocross memes you say...
This is what happens when you take the Jolt Cola away. Give them the boost they need, and code monkey needs no sleep.
Does Jolt cola even exist anymore?
We had a Deal... You promised you'd never take it away from me again.

I'm fairly certain the local Sheetz stores carry it still.
I would occasionally pick up a can before starting a watch on night shift.

That's all well & good, but it always comes down to WHAT ABOUT ME!!
Spend that hour watching StrongBad Emails. It may end up being the best internet hour of your life.
Fortunately, I am not working that night and I should be fast asleep. Phew...
sits in the corner of the room, rocking self and drooling uncontrollably
I'm a long pants man, long pants long pants...
You guys that are going to miss it should make alternate plans.
It's always an hour.
It's never an hour.

There isn't any other internet
Sadly, I think that I am more likely to be on at 3am, instead of 11pm, and I currently work mostly days. Tha is for the heads up!

There's a link to one of the StrongBad Emails in my original post. The text "Compy 386."
I will be waiting fangoriously for the site to come back up
