Yeah, I know of this car. I followed his build thread, and it's very, very well done. The GTO was a totalled roll over and the AMX was a rotted out nothing special (290 or 343, no Go Pack). You have to realize that floor pans and rockers are the only replacement sheet metal available. No subframes, no inner rockers or wheelhouses, etc etc. He really did take two parts cars and made one great one.

The GTO chassis was shortened 14" and the whole thing was welded in, IRS and all. It's basically a rebodied GTO. He got everything functional, too. The details are amazing.

I love it!

Google up some stock AMX images and you will realize that the original was no low ridding stance master either; none of the cars of the era were!

There was a car around here a few years ago- I haven't seen it for a while, but he had installed the grey leather interior of a 90's whale Impala SS into a black, big block 64 Impala. Door panels, dash, console... It was factory. I was very impressed with that build

That car looks very well done. The hours alone would prolly make yur head spin. I'd like to see a build thread if there is one. On another note, if you can lower a GTO you oughta be able to lower that GTO/ AMX FWIW. And the wheels... maybe he was just keeping it GTO themed.... but sooo many possibilities out there.

Actually, they shortened a Javelin.

Let's not make a mountain out of a mole hill, okay? I see one comment that I would label as hate, the rest are respectful criticism. I like the car, I don't like the wheels and the stance. That's not hate in any way, just something I would have done differently on an otherwise awesome build.

That is, without a doubt, the nicest AMC I've seen. Too bad he had to chop up a GTO to make it though.

I know the guy who built the car (his name is Scott) and the car is pretty cool. The engine in my Trans Am came from him! I saw it in a few different stages of the build, and it was quite the project, as you can imagine.

He is big into muscle cars, and has a few other cool ones:

-1969 Trans Am RA III

-1970 Lucerne Blue Trans Am RA III

-1970 Chevelle SS convertible

-1970 GTO

-1970 Chevy C10 short bed with a 454

The AMX/GTO started out as a clapped out AMX "Pro Street" car built in the 80's and was a total mess. It was beyond the point of bringing it back to stock. The GTO was a really bad wreck and I'm frankly surprised he got so many useable parts off of it. He actually grafted parts from both cars together, like the subframe, floor pans, etc, and somehow made it all work. He did about 99% of the work himself between his two car garage at home and some at his work (he owns an electrician company and has a small warehouse). A friend of his (and me) did the paint, and it came out great.

He told me that it drives like a brand new car. It sits high, but I think he was working on somehow lowering it last time I checked. Everything in the car works as it should. I told him that he really needs to ditch those boring stock GTO wheels and go with something better. Wheel choice for GTO's is tough. They share the BMW bolt pattern (5x120?) so I suggested he should go with a modern mesh-style wheel.

I think half the reason to build it was to piss off the naysayers. People's reaction to it is sometimes bad, thinking that he butchered both cars to make this unholy abomination of sacrilege. He just laughs. Both cars (actually 3, he cut up another junky, rusted Javelin too that had no title) were heading for the scrap heap and he made something cool out of them.

He brought it to an AMO show once... that was fun. People were either digging it or calling for his severed head on a platter. And he walked away with a trophy!
