Not true - they are now eligible for import. www.riv.ca

There was most definitely a G8 GXP

You are both correct, I missed the mark on that one - I remember the GXP concept, but didn't know it actually got produced!

I had an '04 GTO in impulse blue metallic. 6spd. I can't really tell you if the stock motor was powerful enough, mine had a ton of mods. But the prices for the '04 were/are so much better. You could buy a really tastefully and properly modded '04 that would run circles around an '05/'06 and still be DD comfortable for the same cash as a stock '05/'06.

Damn, I miss my goat....

I've wanted a GTO for YEARS now. I remember sitting in one at a car show in 2006 and feeling just right in the car. Last time I was out car shopping, I was really tempted, but I held off because coming out of 2 previous WRX's, I didn't think a big heavy RWD coupe could cut it in the snow. Also, the gas mileage turned me off too. I drive a lot, and I've already put 22,000 miles on my brand new Mazda 3 since October.

Every time I see one when I'm out with the wife, I yell "I WANT THAT!!!" like a 5 year old, which is my way of getting her familiar with the cars I like . I get taunted by two Torrid Red ones every day that live up the street from me. There's also a fully converted (or reverted) 2004 Holden Monaro near my uncle's house that I see from time to time, which is really cool.

I don't care anymore... either one of these or a 2011-up Dodge Challenger R/T will be the 3's replacement in a few years. I've seen people drive them in the snow with the appropriate wheels and tires, and heard that you can return damn near close to 30mpg on the highway with one, which is what my 3 does on a regular basis.

Hypothetically, which projects would you be parting ways with?
All of them.

Anything that ends in the letters "Si"?

In reply to Woody:

Not the CRX - It's not a project, at least not a major one. The Civic, maybe. But it's a rolling shell right now. I'm going to sell the Mustang and the TVR first, and then decide about the Civic. But I'll always entertain offers on anything...

In any case, GXP is a trim level, not a car. There's also a Solstice GXP, Grand Prix GXP, G6 GXP... Besides, I thought we were talking about GTO,s, right?

So why don't you own one??
Let's see... in 05 when I was looking at buying a leftover 04 (Phantom Black/Red M6) I floundered too long and it got sold. I walked on a leftover 04 Yellow Jacket at stupid cheap because it was an A4. Then in 06 I was ready to sign the papers on an Impulse Blue/Blue M6 05 (fresh trade in on a Brazen Orange) when my conservative self bought a house instead. In 08 I was high bidder on a Barbados Blue M6 on eBay for 3 days and lost by $5 in the end. Then came marriage and now a kid, and we want kid #2 soon as well, so I drive a Mazda5. Now I've gone and depressed myself. When Mrs. Javelin's Grand Prix dies I plan on replacing it with a V6 G8 (really, really nice cars for DDing). And she wants an 05-09 Mustang (Windveil Blue), so we'll do that as well. I'll probably buy a GTO in about 2025...

Sorry to hear that. You seem to like the blue ones, as do I. There doesn't seem to be as many blue ones available, at least around here.

The thing that is great about this place is that you can be looking at a different model of car every week and no one here thinks your weird. Some of my co workers give me E36 M3 because I'm constantly talking about different cars I want to buy (and not buying any) and it's always changing. It's a safe house here.

This thread is relevant to my interests, lol. Bought an '04 Phantom black/red interior 6M last Saturday. Great seats, btw. The LS1 has way more torque than I was expecting. The gear ratios in 1-2 are very close and the engine pulls so well, around town I often end up shifting 1-3, as in 1-3-5 or 1-3-4-6 on light to moderate acceleration. It will pull 6th from just over 40 mph. Mileage on my work commute is averaging over 19 in mixed driving. The mpg hit for LS2 is not insignificant, especially for an auto compared to manual trans. My only pick, really, is rubber-bushing isolated shifter: gates are hard to obtain, even with practice, so an aftermarket unit is in the works.

In reply to conesare2seconds:

Aftermarket shifters do wonders for the shifting of a T56. I've driven stock GTO, a Hurst Competition Plus, and a B&M. The last two were amazing. That would be my first mod on any M6 equipped GTO.
