I was totally expecting to see SlickDizzys TR6. I looked under all my couch cushions and in every ashtray but I could not come up with enough coin to swing it.

Nice find.

I guess I'll say it first: Sweet ZAV! Grease is way easier to find than most other fuels, that and it already looks like there should be guys with AKs riding in the back.

That is so cool .

Camo paintjob, high stance, push-bar thing...if that doesn't lend itself to off-road hooliganism, I don't know what does . Just add rally-X tyres.

Dear Dan, If you need a new place to stay, you can bunk here for a bit. I could probably find a spot for most of the stuff, too. That looks a little bit smaller than the old chebby you were looking at.

Disclaimer/Proviso: Sometimes I am accused of divulging too much personal information here, like "I know more about your kid than I do about my own cousins". So in an effort to teach young parents what they too may face and at the same time provide light hearted entertainment, here's the story.

First question:

Last Sunday I had to drive 2.5 hours south to NYC because my son's couch won't fit in his new apartment. The Landlord let him keep it in another apartment but was showing it on Monday so the couch had to go.

I pick up the couch and walk down the street with Ian and Kim for lunch. Mmmm Buffalo Wing Pizza on an empty stomach with a 2.5 hr. drive ahead, yum.

Kim (fiance') sold her Kia but mom is going to donate a Lincoln Mk something was the last I heard. I asked Kim over lunch, so what are you driving? Well nothing right now, but I want a Hybrid SUV.

Why?

Well, when we go skiing we need one for the snow.

OK, why can't you put steelies and Hak10s on the GTi?

Ian just hung his head and laughed. I slapped him on the back, "My condolences kid".

Ian wants a beater truck for himself, you don't need a truck all the time, but when you need one there's not much else that will do it. He wants to buy my 2001 Ranger.

No.

Ian's already got it figured out to buy a beater, put steelies on the GTi and not go into debt, well, not more than the $100,000 or so student loans. The hard part is to convince Kim that unlike her parents, she can't walk into a Long Island showroom and buy a 20 foot long four door for F-350 just because you like the color.

Second question:

As of right now I'm fixing it up, possibly repainting it, definately lowering it back to stock height and then I don't know. If I like I may keep it and let the kid beat me out of the Ranger. If I don't like it, (the last one I had was a little tight for me inside), if I don't like it the kid buys it after I flog it enough to know it's safe and maintenence free for a while.

The question you didn't ask:

What are you rich, just buy a car on a whim?

Well no. The Naked Goldwing will be headed down the road, probably near the end of August. I don't know exactly how to handle that. I know what I have invested but everyone likes to turn a profit.

Sell it first come first serve at a reserve price in my head? Sell it to the highest bidder?

We'll sort that one out later; right now I have to tell Mrs. 914 that on her birthday I'm driving 10 hours to Michigan to buy a car she doesn't know about yet and drive back the same day for something that I don't really need.

See how easy your life is CarKid?

Seems like a shame to un-berkeley it, really. It's so...interesting. I'm not fixing anything on mine that doesn't affect my comfort, safety or ability to do smokey burnouts. In fact, I'm probably going to raise it to about the height of yours.
