I wanted to bump this thread in case anyone ran across it.

I think I figured out the threshold for when the Re-71s get eaten quickly, and I believe that is about 95° air temp and sunny, which translated to ~135° tarmac temperature.   I was getting really good life out of the set of Re-71s that I got mounted up this year, probably put about 14-16 hours on them with ~50% wear, but then one event that was really hot out just wore them away on the outside edge with about two hours of track time.

So I think my defense of them needs some asterisks above:    They seem to wear great for me (and our Champcar team) as long as you're going to be driving a Miata or something light in 90° or less races :)

I run 225 Rival S 1.5 on my miata right now (full weight + turbo, about 200whp). They also get a bit greasy and wear the outside edges after 15 minutes of 90F ambient tracking. I actually flipped them on the wheel for this last track day to try and coax some more life out of them.

Had RE-71 on my Miata last season. They would grease out on hot summer days after 4/5 laps, and I probably only got 6-7 track days out of them.

Put RS4’s on this season.  They seem about 1 second/lap slower than the RE-71’s at their best, but you just can’t overheat the RS4’s. I’ve got 5-6 days on them now and you can barely see the wear. Great feeling tire, totally predictable at the limit. I love them.
