My neighbors want to put a new engine in their 1962 impala. They want something with fuel injection that is "easy" and will work with their 700r transmission. They do not want to go with a used motor so it needs to be a crate motor of some sort.
Here is the car...
This is what I suggested, any other ideas...
They will be paying a shop to install it so, getting to crazy can get expensive if you are paying by the hour.
That looks like a good choice. But a 409 would be really sweet:

For something that is more of a cruiser motor.
The car currently has a small block. Keeping it that way would allow them to keep all accessories etc...
It's more of a cruiser for the weekendsp etc...

430hp, but you will need to switch the throttle body to a cable to work the 700 then get the right wire harness and computer.

About 10K shipped and that includes the computer and all of that.
i'm all for LS swaps, but this time i'd go ramjet 350 or similar, since car is already ready to bolt it in.
Unless it's got factory air that would necessitate keeping the standard SBC accessory mounting patterns or a more involved swap to make it work, I'd spring for the E-rod if we're already thinking ramjet 350 money.

I second this. I think it could be a nice cruiser engine, look at that plateau of torque!
My uncle installed a crate motor from blueprint engines a few years ago. He's been happy with it. Here's a 383 for $3600. Comes with a warranty. You can option it up or down depending upon what is being reused from the old engine.

You've gotten lots of good suggestions, so I'm just going to leave this hereBig big block

A vote for the Ramjet. Goes right where the current small block lives and has all the power that cruiser requires...
In reply to pimpm3:
It's a 50 state legal crate LS with everything you need.
The jegs write up explains it pretty good http://www.jegs.com/i/Chevrolet-Performance/809/19257230/10002/-1
