Hello GRMers,

I am entering my last few months of college (graduate in May) and I have a Senior project to do. I have to do a research project that culminates in a "professional paper or article" that can be submitted. I chose to write an article on the Tire Rack Street Survival School (as I was asked to be an instructor for our local one in March). My professor is excited about the subject and approved GRM as a "trade publication" so I will be able to submit the paper for my project (and to GRM for hopeful printing ).

What I need help on is some actual, quality research. I have the GRM's with the previous article on the TRSS and the one on "new drivers" with the Miata and Focus. Were there any other articles on safety training, especially any teen or youth programs?

Any articles in any other publications (Sportscar, trade pubs, etc)? Does anybody know of any good research or studies (like maybe through an insurance company or institute)? Websites are frowned upon at this level of work so if you have anything in print I will gladly pay for a copy.

Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

Our local track does a similar Teen Driving School.

Can't find a specific website for it, but here's some basic information. If you could benefit form talking to the guy that runs it, I could put you in contact with him. http://www.texasworldspeedway.com/component/registrationpro/?func=details&did=35

Here's another one for you: http://www.driveincontrol.com/

When I instructed for them (the only reason I stopped was because I moved out of state) I had to learn all kinds of facts and figures - 46% of all teens have an accident in their first year of driving, for example. They've done their research, and they've even convinced Massachusetts (which regulates auto insurance rates) to give a discount to graduates of the class. They've been going for over 5 years now, so I'm sure they have both facts and figures as well as their own observations for you to go by.

Surf on over to Driving Skills For Life

That is the website for Ford's teen driving program. There's lots of good information there.

In addition, I am an instructor for the program. Feel free to contact me if I can help or you need an interview.

Watching this, I have twin boys about to get their license.  I want them to take one of these courses, once they master the manual transmission.

Maybe contact Summit Point Raceway in WV, they do a lot of driver training courses for all ages.  They may have some publications out there.

Nice topic - my kids both went through and I just worked a TRSS event.

Have you contacted TRSS? Their resources will be biased but will probably also point to other sources you can use.

I have nothing to contribute, but by local do you mean PIR?... And is that to say there is one being planned for March which isn't yet shown on the TRSS schedule?
