What we need is a mega-thread where Knurled and 96Civicwhatever comment every 30 to 45 minutes that they can't figure out which car to get and everything suggested is wrong per their every changing bizarro requirements. Within two weeks there will be more text there than what the Library of Congress holds and we still won't have the "right" answer...
Skip GM....go Falcon. Lots of Mustang (and Oz) speed parts available.

Also, you must pick a car built on a Thursday by a man named Theodore. I'm not sure I understand the point of this game.
I have already ended this thread with two Opels and a Cosworth Vega.
Because you people refuse to accept the genius of these choices... I am forced to reiterate the Manta WITH BOX FLARES.
We are done here.

For what it's worth, I am starting to not like my FB RX-7 because it's just too damned heavy and wide. I can barely touch the passenger window with my fingers!
That's "too wide"? Why not just drive a berkeleying go kart to work then?

Apparently unless you can touch the passenger side rocker panel while sitting in the driver's seat, it's too wide.

No, I think its the outside pavement with the window and door closed.

I came to the conclusion that I don't see cars as products, but just something to build upon.
Here's the thought exercise: You can have any GM ever made, within the following constraints: It will never be garage- or ever parking garage-kept, it must have more than two seats, it must have a wheelbase shorter than 100" (so no trucks), and it must have wheels no larger than 14" in diameter (because huge wheels on small cars suck).
Rolling with these constraints, I came to the heady conclusion that the only GM that I'd find remotely acceptable would be a Chevette. Swap in a 3.4 drivetrain from an early 4th-gen F-body - heck, even the torque arm might be made to work right! - some suspension bits cobbled from Fiero parts here, maybe see what Euro-model rally bits can be adapted to our Brazilian-bastard version of the car...
Ah, now the door slams shut: Car must remain 100% stock.
Well, screw that.
On even further thought, though, I can't think of a single car that I would enjoy at all in its completely stock form. Either it'd be too impractical to be enjoyable, or it'd be to mad blinggzz-y0 with huge wheels and general large fatness, or it'd be a turd.
Hot Rod built one with a V-6--a year ot so after they came out. Lowered it a bit, sway bars, and it was a blast! And a real sleeper at the stop light wars. Even Baskerville liked it.
(showing age)
The Vega, though, had a stiffer chassis, and I think, weighed a bit less. Put in the Buick/Rover 216ci aluminum V-8, and there you go.
I like the Chevette for the sleeper factor.
And Steve "Mon-yon-tay" (sp?? no idea), built one with a 454....
Operating within the constraints you put out, I gotta go with the V8 Monza as well. But it wouldn't stay stock long. For that matter, a Monza hatchback with a SC3800/5 speed would be a whoop ass car.
Big ego

clearly this is what you want.
Nay, nay... Sprints are wrong wheel drive. That's something learned at a very young age.

I didn't even think of that, and I've owned a dozen of those

It wasn't a "what car". It was a thought exercise - would you be willing to accept a free car of your own choosing (within certain limited, yet not mindbendingly impractical constraints - in this case, GM offers you a free car, so it has to be a GM) if you were not allowed to modify it in any way?
I wouldn't. I couldn't. I can't not modify anything. It's a disease or something, but I'm okay with that. On the bright side, if a funny red man with a red suit and funny pointy hair pops up and offers me a free car if I just sign this here document, I can smile and truly say that I'm not interested...
Say, didja know that Engle lists pretty hairy cams for some weird engines? Who builds oddfire Buicks, anyway? Or 392 Hemis for anything but street rods and nostalgia cacklers? They have modern-shape roller cams for those things!
two seat limits me from the Fiero, I'll vote for a 1987 Cavailer Z24 hatchback. Not sure which platform was measured able so wheelbase will be very close. Sorry, my photo posting skills aren't up top to the task of showing an example. That Opel is sweet. DO WANT!!
Oddly enought, I have a built oddfire buick in my garage...

where did the "free car" requirement come from? i'll take anything that's free..
i might have missed it, but did you mention anything about not being able to just turn around and sell the "free" car for something close to actual market value once you get the title in the mail? because i'd totally do that and use the money to modify a car and build it the way i actually want it.

101.2" wheelbase. I know because my initial offering to this thread was going to be a turbo Sunbird.
Besides, that car was assembled on a Tuesday, so it doesn't meet the criteria for this abortion of a thread.
Riiiiggghht! The old 'assembled on a Tuesday' ploy, is it?
Wait, any GM car ever made?
Suzuki Swift GT
or, Chevette.
You ruled the Chevrolet Chevette out, but the Vauxhall Chevette HSR is still fair game!
I never recall you suggesting that the car had to be domestic GM!
....And DAMN YOUR 100" limit! That excludes the Holden Torana SL/R 5000
Oh! The First generation Isuzu Impulse (rwd) had 14" wheels. Even the turbo model.
Suzuki was owned by GM during the late eighties and 90s, so...
Suzuki Alto Works RS/R is an option. 660cc Turbo engine. Seats four, Narrower than your cubicle, has like, 13" wheels, awd even.
So, any of that fit your exhaustive criteria?

Silly requirements aside, I keep thinking about how so many have said they can't not modify a car. For me, modification is the last thing on the list. Get a rat into shape, drive it absolutely as fast as it can be driven, and then see about putting some more parts on it.
I never stop seeing people's track cars decked out with all sorts of high performance stuff when they weren't outdriving all of the stock equipment. Here are two examples:
I sold my E30 M3 to a buddy of mine and after two BMWCCA driving schools, his instructor told him he should really get coilovers and some full suspension makeover, because he was overdriving the car. But his lap times at Gingerman were ELEVEN SECONDS slower than mine. 11. ELEVEN. Leave the car alone until you cannot make it go any faster.
I have a friend with a V6 Passat and he keeps talking about supercharging it. I asked him where he thought the car needed more power and what the goal was. He doesn't do any form of motorsport with the car at all, and told me he never ever takes the car to redline. What is the point of this? The car already has more potential than he is giving it. Leave it alone!
Suzuki was owned by GM during the late eighties and 90s, so..
Suzuki was never owned by GM

Hey now. I finally have a list now just to find one of the cars in good shape.
