45 yrs ago while in boot camp we learned how to put out gasoline fires with water .... solid streams don't get the job done but fog/mist will eventually cool the gas down enough that it is below flash point ... plus it eventually "pushes" out the oxygen ... ( the fog + the fire ... use up the available oxygen)
