So Idug the $2007 914/sho swap out of the shop.
I dont feel like I ever got the shifter linkage worked out.
right now i have the stock sho shifter on the floor, cables exiting the front of the shifter.
I used 2 12' boat throttle cables to run around to the back of the car to the stock sho transmission. The setup 'works' but very poorly (worse than a stock 914!)
I have a shifter and cables from a mk1 MR2. but they are too short and one of the actions is backwards.
SO...what I need is a new shifter linkage idea/setup. what cars would have a rear mounted manual transmission?
so far ideas are fiero, X/19, corvair, 944, what else can I look at?
or if anyone knows an after market solution that would work also.
I need to get this car running/shifting good enough to sell.
Can you post a pic of the shift mechanism on the transmission? That would help a lot.
Any rear engined veedubya, fiat, or,gasp, a 914?
I haven't looked to deeply into the details yet, but there are guys putting a Toyota cable-shift setup into Europas, because their stock shifter apparently sucks as well. Seems like ~$300 was the number I'd read, but I don't know if that was using new, or used parts.

Look at the dunebuggy aftermarket for some trick shifter setups for mid and rear engine dune bugges.
Found this on the locost fourm..

I use 2 triangular quadrants for the cables, red is a wide fine thread nut I weld on which I simply weld a bolt onto the chassis and thread the quadrant onto and thats the pivot - you can't get simpler than that.
I can then use any cable shifter by running the cables from the shifter to one of the green attachment points, then another cable from the other green attachment point to the box and by flipping the cables and quadrants around I can change the cable to push or pull to the box and by changing the distances from the red pivot to the green cable attachments, I can change the throw distance of the shifter to suit me or the box.
I have a Scion xA shifter that is basically backwards from the MK1 MR2. It is backwards for my setup. It might be "the right way" for your setup. I would trade.
On the rear transmission in Durocco I modified the stock transmission shift tower so that it could accept cables from the front. This eliminated the need for long cables and the bends/high resistance. I'll post pictures when I get back to the shop on Monday.
Wow.. Nice
Sorry no help for the shifter...
But I did use your 914 picture as new wallpaper on my computer...
You just need to call these guys:
http://www.ranchotransaxles.com/store/pbs-cable-shifter-p-68.html
They'll hook you up with whatever you need. Describe what you have and what the problems are. They're quality all the way.
Luck,

that is a turd unworthy of sale. you should just give it to me.

^^^ I'll make a real good deal on it! or trade?
C5 corvette? Not sure how they work (rods or cables) but its at least a rear-mounted tranny with a single-shaft shifter.
C5s wont work, the shifter is standard Getrag/Tremec/T5 fare. There is a single rod that runs from the shifter and mounts to the face of the transmission and connects to the same shifter rod that would normally run to the normal place to mount a shifter on a Tremec. Thats why they shift so well, its no different than the shifter on a Mustang or Camaro.

They are sent to whatever email you registered with.
This guy:

did a subaru conversion, but his shifter conversion might help.
yeah if you don't have anything in your email let me know.
