Been cleaning out the garage. I found 8 quarts of motor oil that has to be from 2005 or earlier. Anyone know if the additives and whatnot separate out and the stuff should be recycled, or is it still good?
It's all SH/SG rated, mostly 10W/30. If its good, I'm assuming it could be handy for someone who needs oil with zinc in it.

i'm sure it's good, i've been using oil that's sat for 20 years.
How long has it been since the Dinosaurs roamed the earth?
It will be fine. Just don't use it in anything thats newer than the oil.
Hmm, anyone in the Cincy area want it? I have two cars newer than it, and the older car I use a synthetic blend in. It'd take forever to run this through my mower.
Give it to me. At the rate my VW processes oil, I'll go through it in no time flat.
Or, better, donate it to the Roos family.
Not that I'd be inherently afraid of 2005 oil, but I've had several decade old cans of oil turn into jello. Wasn't willing to run jello through any engine of mine.

It's gotta be atleast 4000 years
I once had a Vega that could have burned that up in 960 miles.

If it hasn't settled at all and hasn't sat in the cold it should be fine.
2005 is old? I am eating stuff in my fridge from 2005.

Knurled, its yours, unless the rental car needs it. Are you going to be at the next Indy Rallycross, or will I have to catch up to you at WOR or OVR?
I'm fairly sure the rental will need it more.
Barring that, I'm not up for any more Indy events anytime soon. Just way too long of a drive. The first/only time I went, I did not want to get back in the car to drive it home...

Find someone with an RX8. They'll go through it.
Cleaning out an old barn I once found a whole pallet of Quaker State from 1965. Weird thing was that half the cans were half full..or less. Seems the old style cans were permeable and the oil just leaked right out over time
