none of the roundabouts here have that high a barricade.. but I still see the early morning tyre tracks across them when I have to be at work at 6am

Completely forgot that was even a thing until now. Wasted way too much time there in my teenage years.

I think the more correct term is "late night tyre tracks" considering they are probably provided by folks leaving the local watering hole at closing time...
I've seen cars hit a concrete median, sign and all, trying to go to a watering hole before.

Just proves the old saying..."you can't fix stupid".
Mt. Pleasant, SC put in a couple of tiny ones with nice tall flowerbeds in the center. Two days after completion, a gent drove straight through it and broke his back. Since the town never installed the signs for the thing, they got to pay for it.
A week after that, the fire dept. found out the ladder truck wouldn't go through it without hitting that really tall flowerbed.
The center is now paved with a 2" curb and everyone drives through the center. Problem solved.
