I've been offered an exceptional deal on a Radical Clubsport DSR. Essentially, it appears there's a couple ways to DSR:
-
If you're chasing a championship or want to run at the front you need the latest car and aero, fresh Hoosiers daily, motors from "the guy", and expensive new parts from the UK. It's ridonkulously expensive.
-
If you want a car to run B-mod at the SCCA autocross, go to the big old airport autocross, do TTs, take SCCA race school and possibly beat some of the rich, slow guys, do DEs, and own a real, live proper formula race car that's relatively easy on tires and brakes and can be towed behind my Tacoma and will fit down my 8' wide driveway - it would be more fun than (insert metaphor)
By exceptional deal I'm talking less than spec Miata money, and it's beautiful. I need more details but the guys stuff is pretty pristine.
I'll keep my M3 for local DEs where I'm also instructing, and the Miata, well, cause everyone has to have a Miata. The Sprite may move on when it's done 'cause it'll never look more delicious to a potential buyer.
What's the downside of a 900#, 175hp car that I can afford?
None.
Edit: having to buy nitro pills for your heart the first time you really open it up!

They're awkward at the McDonald's drive-through.
The one-seat / no license plate aspect ~would~ keep me on my best behavior at Hooters.
Its a go kart for big boys +aero, why isn't it on the trailer already? Just say Santa stopped by!

Radicals cannot compete with more advanced designs at a National level - doesn't matter if it's road racing or solo. It is too heavy and aerodynamically-challenged.
But, a Radical (with a clean log-book) at Spec-Miata pricing deserves much more investigation!
I LOVES me some Radical sports racers.
If it's a Busa powred Radical, you will need to add a fair amount of weight to run BM if it is really at 900# now. Big Macs are now your friend.
As a DSR owner I don't see the downside of a good deal on a Radical. Good sturdy car for solo or track. We could use another BM car in the northeast!
Marty!

You DO NEED a D sports racer
you need a DSR. you KNOW we're enablers, you really expected to be talked out of it by us lot? Spec Miata money for a Radical Clubsport DSR only begs one question: why you are posting about it on a forum full of enablers rather than going out and buying it
Um, what's the redline?
Now, what was your question again?
If you're still wondering, go look up some in-car on Youtube. The post photos.

The downside is that you don't want to be on track at the same time as a heavier full-bodied car, which may be a moot point if you have another DE car. But I'd be tempted to get it on the track.
Radical vs. Integra:
Driver killed at amateur racing event at Lime Rock
September 25, 2005
SALISBURY, Conn. --A Pennsylvania physician died after his car crashed in an amateur race at Lime Rock Park Saturday.
The car driven by (Name removed), 36, of Allentown, Pa., crashed into another car that had stopped after hitting a side wall during an Eastern Motor Racing Association race, track officials said. (Name removed), a veteran amateur driver, was pronounced dead at Sharon Hospital, track officials said. Head injuries were the cause of death, the chief medical examiner's office said Sunday. The driver of the other car was (Name removed), 46, of New Haven, the Republican-American of Waterbury reported. He was treated at the scene. State police are investigating.
The most recent fatality resulting from a crash at Lime Rock was in 1998. A racer died in 2003, but the medical examiner's office ruled that he died of a heart condition.
After looking at some Radical prices (no pun intended), if you can get this one for Miata money, I'd jump on it. If nothing else, you could paint it up like an R15 and pretend you're Tom Kristensen..
or, if you're still on the fence about this, post the contact information for the seller and somebody will probably help you decide......
