Update: It just got sunny out. Wow do these things ever look good in natural light.
I painted a computer case with that stuff back in my misspent youth.
My roommates thought I had finally lost it
I used Duplicolor Effex (which is a similar setup) on bronze metallic. It works best on a flat colour, metallic tends to wash it out except in extreme-angled sunlight. Very "rainbow trout."
Poor lighting, but here's what my Forester winter steelies looked like right after spraying:
I put about eight light coats on.
Was going to use Effex Black with Krylon Black on my Honda steelies this year, but any kind of clear sprayed on top seems to have made the Krylon immediately freak out and turn into The Blob so that's out. Not sure if Tremclad is better for being cleared over - this stuff is expensive so I might try prototyping it with just normal Duplicolor clear first.
Here's a picture of Effex on some guy's CAI (not mine):
I saw a Maverick painted black with this clearcoat all over it. The appearance was questionable. The nitrous'd, tunnel-rammed small block with a 4-speed and slicks was not.

And re-useable!
That Jetta Was actually House of Kolor and was a stupid expensive paint job but it was a little obnoxious for a non-lowrider.

It worked pretty well but I ended up having globs where wet paint was dripping down the cards and sealing against the bead. A lot of the rim of the wheel was not coated well.
3.5" index cards is what I use now, they work better (easier to 'mould' to ensure even coverage), absorb any wet overspray better and are cheaper.
Still in search of a good solution for taping off the valve stem.
In reply to ssswitch:
Cut the pinky finger off of a small rubber glove. That should be about perfect for most valve stems.

Use a large straw. Like for drinking bubble tea. Slides right over.
