(yes of course I cleaned the roof before driving anywhere)
Another blizzard another day of fun. Except the freeways were anything but free. 5-15 mph. Bumper to bumper. All day long.
I quickly got off freeways and main roads. Started taking back roads.
All day drivers were calling in late. Typically by hours. Somehow I managed every run on time.
I like being the only one on a road. Yes it's slippery and judgement is really called for. But stuck behind some terrified driver with the four ways flashing, stopping in the middle of the road to clear off the windshield from worn out wiper blades. Doesn't cut it. Maintain your vehicles people or don't go out.

More than anything in the snow, I prefer having to only worry about me and my driving, not what someone else is (or isn't) doing.
I'll be a contrarian. I dislike driving in snow/ice. Not because I don't trust my skills, but because I don't trust other people's.
Yesterday was the first day after school closed because of snow storms. In the meantime the snow plows had cleared off everything from Curb to curb. Freeways had all the lanes cleared and both shoulders. No snow just a little damp from melting salt. I guess people could see the snow piled up past the shoulders and decided that was enough to justify diving 45 or slower.
Driving the Speed limit of sixty I looked over and saw a police officer hunched over the steering wheel in the fast lane going 40.
AWD, Manual, snow tires = happiness. I loved driving my 2.5RS on empty unplowed roads. Leaving each stop with all 4 spinning and kicking up rooster tails is just hilariously fun. Possibly the only thing I will ever miss about cold weather.

Traffic tends to get really light even on the freeways in the middle of a snow storm. On a 6 lane freeway there might be 1 car every 1/4 of a mile or so.
Then you'll pass 3 cars with their flashers on. Tailgating each other going 15-20 mph.
Yesterday I went up to Buhl.( To get water) it's about a 450 mile round trip. The further north the colder it got and the mist turned into snow .
On the way back I noticed everybody driving in the right hand lane. Nose to tail. Between 35-40 mph. Where the speed limit was 70 mph.
I drove in virgin snow comfortably in the left lane at the speed limit. Sat back, relaxed, and had the cruise control on. While those in the right hand lane had brake lights flashing and cars heading for the ditch or just spinning out.
Punching the GPS for my return time in Buhl it predicted 8:04 pm but at 8:02 I pulled into my driveway.
