If I had the motivation, a TPI/Megasquirt, lightly worked heads on a 305, and subframe connectors. These cars are floppy like a cat.

I don't quite understand the question. Anything you want... Burn it, pop a rebuilt motor in and enjoy, full ESP build, 800hp drag car, etc.

What do you want to with it?

Install 5.3. Install nitrous. Burnouts. Break T5. Install T56. More burnouts.

Not sure why you'd want to put a miserable 305 in it when you could put a 350 in it. There are some incredibly cheap 350 crate motors out there (from GM, with a warranty). The whole problem with those cars originally was that you couldn't get the 350 with a manual trans. You have the perfect opportunity to correct that error in judgement.
If you want to go LS (little reason to do so, IMO), why go with a 5.3 when you can go with a 6.0 or 6.2? Doesn't make sense to put an engine in that has the same physical dimensions and amount of work and not go with the best you can, unless it's a matter of cost.
If you don't like that idea, send me pics of it. My kid wants one badly. I'll be in Florida around Christmas and could pick it up then.

Ya the possibilities are almost endless with what you can do with it. I think you could probably get some decent money selling it the way it is. Be thankful it's a Camaro. There's always a market for those.

Why are people suggesting a TPI 305? That is like saying "Make it like the POS it was when it was new".

Were it me... junkyard aluminum LS motor out of a Silverado with C5 vette bolt ons, T56 when you turn the 5sp to pulp and then get a mullet.

I was always under the impression that the third gens were the best handling of them all.

305 vs 350 thread happened a while back and we could rehash that again...

I suggested one because they're cheap.

5.3 engines are way cheaper than anything that starts with a six and can be turbocharged into spectacular powerplants on the cheap. The unibodies on those cars are a wee flimsy, so consider a roll bar that's tabbed to the roof. A company called Shields makes a lightweight replacement hatch window. The owner's kid has a 3rd gen so he stepped up. The torque arm rear suspension works quite well. The front needs some love.

350's are way cheaper than 5.3's, especially considering they bolt in. Just sayin'
