One of my favorite cars was my GL wagon. I had the 5 speed, which was really a 4 speed because 5th gear was completely useless except for putting around town in the city, over about 55mph it couldn't pull that tall of a gear. (It would have been about 2800 at 60 in 5th, , but that little motor did absolutely nothing below 3500, or over 5500) Top speed was in 4th, too. 87mph. The carpet was my cruise control. Upshift to 5th and it would slow down.
Theoretically I could have driven it in 5th gear and 4-Lo, but I had too much fun driving in Low in 1-2-3-4, then shift to High and down to 3 for 3-4-5. It's not like I was actually accelerating much, but at least I was shifting a bunch so I had something to do.
That means yours was a 1985-1988 with the dual-range transfer case. Those are the best. I only paid $1100 for mine and drove it for 3 years, it some tiny little 13" Blizzaks and would go anywhere in 4WD. I'd own another in a heartbeat, but the entire family of EA71/EA82 have vanished from the landscape.

I will trade you all the things for that car (except the RX-3).
Seriously. a GVR4 is on my ultimate wishlist. I have enough paid off on teh S60R that I'd need an adult to tell me no if you agreed.
(And yes, I HAVE driven them. I know they are laggy, and slow, and rust prone, and the rear wheel steering is perpetually broken, and they have weird smelling interiors, and they are a major PITA to work on for any reason at all.... actually, you know what, nevermind)
I actually am considering selling it! I have too many other projects, a 1G DSM that needs to be finished mainly. This VR4 is a good example, 98k miles, no structural rust, 4WS is intact and working, stock engine fitted with ECMLink tuning software, only modification is KYB AGX struts, and a 3" exhaust with resonator and magnaflow muffler. I am using it for SCCA rallycross and a fun b-road car, and will be fitting a brand new "13G" turbo from the 1G DSM Auto cars. Think full boost at 2500RPM!
Put 100K on a 77 Civic 1200 commuting 100 miles a day no a/c, nor power anything. One Maryland summer I did the commute in a 72 AZL600 600ccs, 36 hp. I once got it to an indicated 84 mph. The Civic felt posh after that.
