Was thinking of picking up a G37 looks like there's 2009 Sport package (Manual, bigger brakes, vlsd) with about 50k miles around $18k or so. Beautiful car... Was wondering if these will survive up to 200k miles. Early research seems they are fairly solid, with some seat bubbling problems.. There's been some cars where I wish I read the forum and read common problems before purchasing.

; 4-piston front and 2-piston rear sport brake calipers; - Are these brakes going to be a ton to replace the pads?

I can afford a basic luxury car like this, but can't afford BMW levels of maintenance..

Mechanically the same as Nissan 370z, just a longer wheelbase.

In my research, I didn't find anything that suggested that it wouldn't last to 200K miles. That's why one is in my driveway now. My only complaint so far is the paint is a little weak on it and it seems to chip to metal when it chips.

The brake pads are a little pricy but not horrible. I spent a little under $200 for the hawk ceramic pads. Project Mu pads are closer to $300 with OEM pads about $175.

I got it just for the reason you said. I want it to last 150-200K without breaking the bank. I've only got 47K miles on mine but it's been a really good car.

Cool. I was looking at v6 mustangs or the genesis coupe. The G37 is just really really nice when compared to the two.

I just rolled 111,111 on my 09' Journey model (regular brakes, auto) on the ride into the office this morning. I have done nothing but routine maintenance and have no issues. I am looking to replace the shocks and rear diff bushings just because.

I will second the paint, on my OB black (optional black at extra cost), it is worse than an early WRX. the front bumper feels fuzzy runny my hand across it and the hood and front fenders have almost no paint left. I have to move the car is the landscapers come to the office after I have arrived as the leaf blowers take the paint off the sides. This is the first car I have ever owned that I am pricing out paint jobs that hasn't been a 25 year old sun faded beater. It truly is disappointing as it is so bad. The other issue is all of the rubber trim has melted and looks bad around the windows.

Interior wise it is holding up great. I have 2 young kids with the light interior and it cleans well with no wear issues. I used this as an outside sales/ PM construction car and nearly all of the miles have been in town. It is still very fast, handles well, and is very enjoyable. The paint seems to be most prevalent on black cars, but not all, most I see are still pretty good.

How is it around town, is the power band fun around the speedlimit? When I test drove one, I believe it was. Main problem with the Genesis turbo as that by the time the turbo kicked in you were already speeding. As that's where 70% of my mileage will be. Easy to park and maneuver?

Turning and parking are good, I have managed to not curb a wheel (knock on wood) yet in my many u-turns. Nav is good, I need an update as I am still on 09 maps and the edge of the city is not always there. Power is everywhere. I will knock it down a gear on the slap shifter before I gun it. I always hate the hard down shift from just flooring it if I can avoid it.

I get all but the newest 5.0 stangs and the AMG cars in the neighborhood. If you need to pass it goes from 50-100 in no time and doesn't stop pulling until 125-130ish and really doesn't loose much until 150ish. I have heard you can easily run 140ish from Tucson to Phoenix in the middle of 115* days of summer with no drama when late for a meeting, but I cannot confirm. That also may be the reason for marginal paint. I have a lifetime average of 22.89 mpgs with lots of idle time included.

I had hoped the G37 was better, as my 370 had the thinnest paint I have owned. Easily scratched and chipped. In many ways I wish I had picked up a G37 instead.

Mine in still in good shape up front but I'm really thinking of a clear bra to prevent any more damage. Rust is not a big deal in TX but I'm just not wanting to either repaint it or have to touch it up a lot. I like it more and more the more I drive it and I think it'll be around for a long time.

funny the mention of paint. Reading up on the car everyone says it has self healing paint job, haha, guess that marketing scheme didn't pay off.

I think I remember test driving a hyundai coupe and a infinity 37 and felt the balance was best on the g37.

I'll probably go against the grain here, but I think they are best with the automatic. It suits the engine well and the clutch in these is not very kind. They are extremely difficult to be smooth. There are things you can do to make them better, such as use a smaller clutch spring or remove it entirely, but if you are used to a Miata, or well...any other car...it will not feel great. Other than that and the paint, I can't think of any downsides.

I've been considering a G37x to replace my OBXT next summer. Though I haven't driven one yet, I think it may be the perfect daily for me. Good luck to you.

You might just be right. There's something nice about a rwd luxury automatic with some power

I've never sat in a G37. Can anyone tell me where the window line is? On some cars, like the new 'Vettes, it seems like the door goes all the way up to the drivers chin.

I know some people slouch when they drive, but I usually ride with the windows down and I like to be able to put my elbow on the window sill. Any observations?

Exaggeration of course but it's seriously tall.

My friend just sold his g37s. He loved it and the only problems it has was the baffles in the muffler rattled loose (he said it was a common problem an just put on an aftermarket exhaust) and he said when he took his into the Infiniti place for brakes he was raped, don't remember the price but I remember him saying how expensive everything at the dealership was. Did have brembos so maybe standard brakes aren't so bad.

Edit: wait op didn't you just get a fiat? I guess it's not working out for you?

I did! I will be traveling a lot next year, so wanted something I could road trip for awhile and not get uncomfortable. Going to keep the turbo fiat for a weekend sweetheart. It's a super fun car around town, not sure If I'd want to take it a few states away though.

I also have concerns of Chrysler reliability through the future. Sorta disheartening when working on the car to find some parts are held togather by zip ties and electrical tape.

Yea, elbows outside the window is a must.

I've never driven one with a stick, but it has, by far, the absolute least infuriating automatic of any car ive driven. I still didnt like it, but only barely.

I love my G35 for road trips. The G37 is quite a bit better. Stiffer structure, nicer interior, more power. It will be what replaces my G35 eventually. I've driven manual and auto. I'd take either. I'd prefer the manual as there is a great aftermarket clutch pedal assembly that takes the on/off nature out of the modulation, but the 7 spd auto is very good. It kind of suits the car. It's a traditional TC auto, but it manual mode it will hold gears on the rev limiter and not downshift unless you tell it to.

If you get over your arm out the window thing, you'll love this car for your stated useage.

I think I remember on my G37 test drive the interior felt so nice it was ok to put my arm on the armrest. Past cars it's just cheap plastic, so arm out the door was the way to go.

On some of the newer-ish G37 auto transmissions(I'm assuming all the 7 speeds?), they have a super well-done manual mode. Like it felt damn near instant when you hit the paddle. It surprised the hell out of me when I drove one some time ago.

Yea, elbows outside the window is a must.

Sales people thought I was crazy but I had to try out the window in snow to make sure I was comfortable. We took our Fiat on some long road trips and while it was ok something roomier is a good idea.
