Basically, specialty insurance is way cheaper than regular insurance. The criteria for most companies is something close to: 1. Must be garaged 2. Must have 10 years driving experience 3. Must have proof of a DD (doesn't matter where it's insured, you just can't have a limited use car and no DD) Some companies will insure race cars, some won't, most won't cover anything that happens on the track. Expect a full coverage specialty policy with an agreed value of $5-10k to cost around $250 per year. If you would like me to help find someone that can write in your state, send me a private message.

I insure my track car on the same policy as my DDs. Neat thing I found is (at least in PA with Allstate) if you carry comprehensive in addition to the "bare minimum" liability, you can "suspend" coverage when it's off the road. It costs me like $6 a month to carry the policy, and I can have my coverage back with a phone call.

With the short season we have up nawth here it works out way cheaper to carry more coverage

If you actually want collision on an AX car, well, ignore everything I just said.

Its not like insurance will pay for it if you destroy it in an autox/rallyx/hpde event anyways.....get what you want for when its on the road driven too and from events.

My ti is currently comprehensive only as it isn't on the road.....if I'm only going to trailer it to events, I'll just stick with the $6/mo comprehensive policy. If I decide to plate and drive it, it'll get plpd added to the comprehensive. My current comp coverage covers anything that would happen to it while its not on the road, including theft IIRC.

As above: Are you actually trying to insure an 84 VW for an incident that might happen DURING and AutoX? If not, I really don't see an issue here. The only marginal area I can see would be a parking incident in pits of the event. Even still, that really isn't part of the "racing" anyway.

As far as driving an AutoX prepped car on the street. As long as the car is road safe (e.g. has DOT tires) I don't see any issues here either.

No just to and from events.

I am just trying to figure out the cheapest way to do this.
