I found one sort of local for $2k with only 71K miles. AWD, looks like ton of room. Only downside is that it's an auto.

Anyone have one of these? Or know much about them?

I think it's weird you haven't bought it yet.

I think they can be converted to manual, they are basically a jeep, right?

I think people who don't like wagons are weird.

How hard is it to install a 4G63T?

I remember hearing it wasn't hard at all to convert these to a 4G63T monster, but then again the DSM community can run 13s with a used forklift and an insulin pump.

I laughed way too hard at that, thanks!

Those things with awd have unicorn status buy it.

While you're at it make sure you get the seller to adjust his price to reflect the actual value of the car minus parts and labor. Almost no 90s car meets that excellent status on kbb. (That way you have some cash for a junkyard turbo and some other stuff to throw at it for the challenge budget wink )

I think you may be thinking of the AMC Eagle.  Totally different beast---- and no--- the AMC Eagle was not a Jeep underneath.  It was a AWD car--- shared an engine with Jeep, but not much else.

I love these things. It's the same as a Mitsubishi Colt, and truly not hard to install a 4g63t.

And yet...I'd still rather have the AMC eagle

I love these threads. Someone asks about an obscure, “considered crappy” car. And then we talk it up. Eventually, someone posts a badass picture of one done right, we all get slap happy and then start searching the internet for our own “what if I owned one?”  Sadly, I haven’t seen that picture in tghis thread yet...

I'm laughing so much right now. I might just buy this thing.

Has anyone actually owned one of these though that can speak to their reliability and what ownership is like?

They're sturdy little cars, if it's a 2.4 it'll have plenty of grunt. One of the cars I learned to drive in was a green one.

It's just a little mitsubishi wagon from before their quality went down the E36 M3ter and it's no harder to 4g63 swap than any other mitsu from the 90s.

man....hurry up and buy it before I do a fly and drive. That + turbo is such a blast. The transmission is the same as the DSM cars.

That forklift joke makes me wonder if Mitsubishi really did put the 4G63, or something close to it, in forklifts. They seem to have put some sort of 4G6X variant in everything else they made in the '90s.
