Hi all. I'm looking this Mazda CX9. Drove fine, looked good. Besides what seemed like warped rotors, everything seemed fine on the test drive. However, looking over the Carfax.. the ownership is odd. Am I crazy or does it seem problematic?

Because of 3 owners who owned it for such a short period of time? Hmmm. Does tingle my spidey senses.

If you look at the dates of registration, it does not match the "estimated time of ownership"

1st owner  - 6/21 to 2/22. My guess is sold to the dealer and used as a service loaner

2nd owner - 2/22 to 2/23

3rd owner - 2/23 to 1/25

service loaner, then 1 year, then 2 years. I'd say it's not crazy odd. Looks strange at first glance, but that's because you see 2 months, 5 months, 6 months. Not possible on a 4 year old car, math doesn't math.

In reply to CyberEric :

Yeah. The ownership periods were short as well as the mileage. It's a good fit for my family but I'm having issues looking past that.

I think Steve's theory on a loaner or demo is probably correct.  Plus, owners do not necessarily match title changes. Sometimes titles are 'sold' because a car goes from business to business, or business to private owner. Demo, sold to someone on the staff, then traded in for something new because the wife wanted one in a different color.

Look at the service history.  The first owner titled or registered it as a personal vehicle (which may or not be accurate) but the vehicle didn't get a lien on the title until the second owner.  That sounds like the first owner was the dealer, who kept it and used it as an employee's private transportation, although it may have been a loaner.

I see no service work that could pertain to an issue with the vehicle.  It's just a white SUV that people got bored with or who knows why people don't keep the same car for 20 years.

Thanks for the input guys, it makes me feel better. I keep my cars for long-ish term so seeing it switch hands so much is weird to me.
