E30? E36? What's your budget?

Less than 4k. It's just a daily beater. I have 3 other cars. E30 sounds pretty good.

You'll have better luck finding a decent E36 in that price range, and it will be a better autocrosser, too.

You can find a E30 but it will either be a 318i or a 325e.

Is it possible to still find an S14 around that price?

4th gen F-body 3.8 V6 with 5speed. 98+ cars are better, 2000+ the best.

"In Search Of"

On topic, e36 2.5L car.....you're not going to touch an s14 240 worth owning for the prices the bmw's are at currently.

Indeed. And for $3500 you could buy a museum quality original or mod up an almost perfect one you picked up for under $1500. If you don't mind wrenching, buy this one and swap in a T5 like I want to do (no response from my emails, maybe you'll have better luck).

I think you can, not sure if it would be worth having though.

If you managed to find one worth owning, throw random body shims in places and then sell it as a "Mad tyte dorifto car" for 1-2k more than you paid.....some teenage fool would buy it with mommy & daddy's money.

^ That's where I went "wrong" when I was trying to sell my blue LSC. I wanted it to go to an enthusiast and not just some random meathead. Had I painted it flat black and touted it's Mustang heritage I probably could have gotten $2k for it.

That being said I would probably do the same thing again.

'99-'04 V6 Mustang?

Z31 not super great autocrosser but dependable and if you get the turbo it's easy to double the rated HP. S13, S14 great chassis getting harder to find and you'll need a frankenturbo or an engine swap to have any real power.

In reply to The_Jed:

This is just my crazy opinion but isn't every V6 Mustang from before 2005 a horrible car to drive? The few I've been behind the wheel in were all the negatives of a Mustang from that era + a pretty awful engine under the hood. I'd go 3.8 4th gen F-body 110% in comparison to an SN95 with a V6.

I am shocked - SHOCKED - at how inexpensive IS300s have become.

I agree that the driving dynamics of a 4th gen F-body are probably far better than a V6 SN95 (or "new edge") but, I think the Mustang pulls ahead when you have to put a wrench to them.

Another good thing about the non-turbo Z31 is that it was just moved to HS by the SCCA. I imagine it will be a pretty stout competitor in that class. Mk3 Supra (both turbo and non-turbo) were also moved to HS. Also, all 3rd and 4th gen V6 Camaro/Firebirds were moved to HS. E36 318Ti was also moved to HS.

All of those are pretty cool cars that I imagine will give the Mini's and 3's a run for their money if properly built.
