Working on challenge driveshaft.
I got two from the junkyard Saturday for their yokes. I know I need to melt the plastic out to get the u joints undone, but is there a way to get the "collar" off? I didn't see how that part went together.
I want to get rid of the part with the pink arrow going to it, but keep the actual slip yoke (green arrow part)
What do they look like from either the front or back side? Can you see a rubber isolation layer in between the ring and the yoke, kind of like an crankshaft damper?
I got a junkyard shaft from an S10 that has that big damper on it too. It is rubber-isolated. I think they can be pulled off but I haven't tried yet, so I'll be watching this :)

Yup, I must have missed that Bc of the dirt. But both have rubber between the collar and the rest of it.
will it just pull off then? Or hammer off ?
Maybe a big jaw puller would do it? Or stick the yoke in a shop press once you separate it from the driveshaft.
Make two or three cuts through the outer ring using a cutoff wheel. Then if the rubber is deteriorated enough it will just fall off; if it's still adhered then it may take some prying. More trouble than it's worth trying to pull it off in one piece.
