I didn't buy my 911 for the interior...
Neither did I but my 911s interior is 20yrs old and still made out of better stuff. Its also faster, lighter, makes more power and handles better than a Solstice GXP. It was a lot cheaper too. Its also not really a fair comparison.
They should have just asked the folks at Holden to build it. Truthfully - the coupe looks so good that I might just wait until I can get my hands on one for under $5k and replace the parts I don't like with a roll cage and coilovers. It will solve the weight problem too.
My 911 is an 85. What year is yours? Mine has 207HP stock and the Solstice has 260, so no it is not more powerful. The Solstice GXP also handles much better. Have you driven a Solstice GXP? I drive the 911 and GXP back to back at times and I love my 911, but I'm really not sure what you're talking about....faster (no), lighter (yes), more power (no), handles better (no).
I agree it really isn't a fair comparison....I guess I'm just comparing it to cars I currently own. My 944 Turbo would actually be a better comparison.
Mine is a 964C2. 3.6L 270HP, 2550lbs. faster (yes), lighter (yes), more power (yes), handles better (subjective, but yes). Your 944 Turbo is probably all of those things as well.
I was disappointed - its not that it isn't ok for the money - I wanted it to be GREAT. I mean, look at it. Its damn sexy. I hate the way it drives and feels but I still want one (just not enough to pay for it). I would gut out all the cheap plastic, throw in a set of recaros, a set of good coilovers and likely be pleased as pie. It just pisses me off that they couldn't do that from the start. Did they even go look at a Miata before shopping for materials?

Have you lightened your 911? My 85 is 3200lbs with me in it. Totally stock with AC and 3/4 tank of gas. I weigh around 200, so my 911 is right at 3k. Just curious more than anything....I'd be surprised if a 3.6 C2 is lighter than a 3.2 Carrera especially with the extras like power steering.

I did delete the AC and PS as well as the power wing/decklid, sound-deadener from the trunk, engine and interior (all of it), spare, exhaust and heavy wheels. I'm at 2800 with me and 1/2 a tank of gas in it.
EDIT: Oops... forgot the alum. door panels. That 2550 above should be 2650. I pulled 300lbs out give or take.
I am amazed your '85 weighs 3k... they added a bunch of crap to the newer car. I thought those 3.2 cars were closer to 2800.
It was 2950 from the factory. So, I guess its right around the same as the stock Solstice w/o hard top, wet, sans driver.

My 3.2 is a Targa also, which adds some. It also has power windows and door locks, but has the 915 trans which I thought weighed a good bit less than the G50. I imagine if it were a stripper coupe it would be quite a bit lighter. Since I weighed mine I have swapped to a GHL exhaust, but I don't think it cut a lot of weight out.....sounds nice though!
You really put yours on a diet! I'm sure it's a blast to drive.

GRM will eat me alive, but the S2000 and RX-7 FD are both high on my list of cars I'd like to get, higher than either of those two.
no disagreement there. those are and will remain on my list for many, many years.
and for the record i was referring to shoving an LSx into an NA or NB miata, and not the current NC...it would probably be a nice car, but the swap isn't exactly mapped out as well as for the others.
plus there's something about a "little chick car" with 400+hp.

Guys, just so you know, the GXP with the factory GMPP program makes 290 BHP and 340 ft-lbs. We just had one guy get that into the 12 second range in the 1/4 mile.
Do post when you can do better with a stock (the reprogram is considered stock on the GXP) Porsche...
