There is one of these parked on a field for the last 6 months. I know they are kind of a pain to drive but they intrigue me.

Some pictures:

Prices vary a lot and it all depends on condition. Especially of the frame - the body is aluminum so it doesn't rust but the frame sure isn't. That rear crossmember looks decent.

That one's a positive ground truck, early to mid 60s. Get the VIN off the tag under the instruments and we can say for sure. I can't remember how to spot a Series II vs a Series IIa, the latter is preferable.

They're not so much a pain to drive as they are a road-going tractor.

I figured prices would vary. I honestly have not checked much on the condition but all the parts seem to be there, even an engine crank?

I thought series 2A had the headlights on the fenders, but I am no expert.

How are the brakes on them? I dont care about speed so much.

BTW, I will get the VIN this weekend. I'll also poke underneath to see how the frame looks.

Some IIa have the headlights on the wings, some on the breakfast (where they are here). IIRC the change happened in 1969 or so. My IIa has them on the breakfast.

The brakes on this are unassisted single circuit drums. Not spectactular, but then again you're unlikely to be reaching significant speeds. Just remember that you're driving a tractor and plan accordingly.

I find it vaguely amusing that it's parked in the dirt, next to what looks like a mostly-empty, paved parking lot. :)

Had to some time and went check it again. It's a Series II A:

It can be tough to ID these due to the way they're modified That black instrument panel and that steering wheel don't belong together, IIRC. I'm going to say 1962-66, because it's a lot more difficult to change the wheel than the panel.

Underhood, it's been updated with a 32/36 Weber instead of the "oil bath" intake and probably a Solex. This is good. I see electronic ignition as well, also good. Single line unassisted brakes as expected. Also, that big heater isn't hooked up.

One part I'm not too keen on is the visible rust on the firewall - the only part of the body that isn't aluminum and the whole truck is built around it.

That's probably a $5000-7000 truck in my neighborhood if the chassis is good. Though the The VIN plate has been removed, I'd guess it's mostly a '64 or '65. It still has the early SIIa steering wheel, but has the shift lever used on the SIII. The head is a late IIa 7:1 part. Of course, any of these parts could be used on most any year. The firewall looks pretty good to me. I don't see any rust. My beef is the painted galvanized trim.

Are you talking about the breakfast? Regardless, she's a bitsa and tough to value. I'd definitely go after that chassis with a hammer and screwdriver to check it out, and confirm that the VIN on the frame horn matches that on the bulkhead.

With a good winch they are easy to park...

Thanks for all the info guys.

I was thinking if I could get it for $5k it might be a fun project and possibly can get my money back once ready to sell. But then I thought it was probably worth more than that.

I need to go look at a Land Cruiser and depending on how that works out I might go make an offer on this one. I'll get it on a lift if I do and check the frame.

I thought you probably knew of it. It was last registered in 2012 and sitting on a lot in Wellington.
