I think the 6 is going to be more fun to drive, but, what about an Avalon if you're wanting a comfortable mile eater?  They seem as cheap or cheaper than comparable Camry's.

In reply to pres589 (djronnebaum) :

That is something I had not thought of. Same with the Acura version of the Accord. Time to do a little bit of looking on legitimate fuel economy numbers for those. Maybe a  viable alternative depending on depreciation curve and gas mileage

The first gen cars were the same platform, engines, etc. as the first gen Fusion. Considering those as well might open up additional options in your area. I still like the way both the first gen Mazda 6 and Fusion look.

Dude....  I just gave away a Mazda 6 4 banger manual....

Eff.

I love that car.  Unfortunately it had a few minor issues after 160k miles that meant it never got driven.

It was my wife's car and she loved it too.  Only problem it ever had was a bad maf (or whatever in the intake) and a bad o2 sensor.

I did brakes on it twice and never anything else.  Fantastic cars.

The 1st gen cars can be had for way under 6k in pretty good shape.

My wife tracked hers (hubcaps and all) and smoked a lot of supposedly faster machines.  I have a picture somewhere of a corvette getting the blue flag to let her by. (Obviously didn't keep up on the straights).

Awesome awesome cars.  Would buy again!

We have a Mazda 5 that replaced it.  It doesn't feel as planted or as refined, but you can tell they share dna.

Winner?

Ya know, how about a low mile Subaru wagon?

Probably not the mpg you want but readily available.

I did about a 60 miles in a 2011 Mazda 6 today. 4 cylinder automatic base model. It is by far one of the most comfortable cars out of the box I have been in. Time to find a good one. Made an offer on the car today that's got 72,000 miles on it and a badly repainted front bumper and the guy is going to sleep on it. One owner cars out from Florida that is squeaky clean except for that front bumper

And if I could get comfortable in the Subaru I would agree with you. Unfortunately I can't.

Cool.

2011 Gets you the updated body which is slightly larger than the previous. Also gets you the 2.5L. Sounds good.

We bought a 2014 new, first of the new body style. It just crossed 100k. Been a stellar car, my wife still dailies it and loves it to death. Needs more power but handles nicely for a stock car. Only complaint is it's a bit louder on the highway - like it could use another layer of sound deadening everywhere. Lots of road noise. Bit it really only stand out because the rest of the car is so tight, quality, and comfortable.

When that 08-12 model came out I wasn't a fan of it. Now I'm a big fan. I think you'll  be pleasantly surprised by the mpg for the size of the car too.

2012 touring.  109k as of my driveway.  5k, plus tax/title/tag.

Needs tires, tint, and some little details.  May do vinyls on the hood and grille for a sport look.

Nice. Is this a plus one drive a beater? Or is one of the Neons going bye bye?

White r/t (the only running neon) is going to live with professor brap. Needed something more comfortable for work. I wanted a dd neon to work, but rememberd why i sold the acr when it was my daily (other than nate paying the "$xxxx, berkeley you and get off my property" price)

The acr is coming to the challenge next year to win the concourse, and be a fun car/not a daily drivabeater.

If the Mazda 6 doesn't work out, let me suggest a Jaaaaag.  I've really been enjoying mine as a "grown up" daily the last few days.
