Here is an update on the exhaust! Been on the car for about 1500 miles and has fully broken in. It has gotten a bit louder and lost some of the sound it did have which was a bit of a high pitched ring that hid some of the V8 sound. Now the sound is deeper and more of a v8 grumbling but I made a video for you to decide for yourself!

If money was no object, and packaging was no concern, I wonder about a dual-inlet/dual-outlet chambered muffler. Install downstream of the x-pipe. Sort of like a resonator + piping run shortening device. I think Flowmaster has a muffler like this with a pretty short case.
Yeah, draft 1 of my E36/302 is getting a quick and dirty exhaust from the firewall back. But draft 2 will pick up the 2.5" duals I have plumbed up to the firewall, and go 2.5" all the way back through an X pipe, dual high-flow cats, and then the Borla Turbo dual-in-dual-out muffler (which is pretty much a full-sized muffler case).
I have seen some "X-pipe" dual-in-dual-out muffler designs out there, but I just can't convince myself that they are a substitute for an actual X-pipe before the cats.
The Borla is more of a straight-through design than a baffle chamber design. I hope it's reasonably quiet anyway; Borla has a rep for being good at that.
I have always loved the sound that borla makes but it wasn't in the budget for this build plus I wanted the "jdm" look to keep it more like a sleeper. Seems to work good just wish I had my cutouts...
