I've swapped the Volvo wagon to use a wasted-spark coil pack instead of a single coil and a distributor. I'm using a Bosch coil pack that's used on the 99-04 Land Rover Discovery, the BMW K1200, among other things. I bought mine on Ebay (new old stock), and it came with plug wires for a K1200.

Here's what the spark outputs look like on the coil. It's a female well, with a little male pin down at the bottom.

The wires it came with are a) too short and b) have ends on them that don't fit my plugs (manifold/head are in the way).

This is what the ends of the included wires look like:

And my exiting wires (that plugged in to the distributor):

The existing spark plug wires I have don't plug in to the coil, since they don't have the hole in the end for the pin.

I've run the car by sort of half plugging in the old wires, but that isn't a long term solution.

Anybody know of another car that uses this style connector at the coil end, which might be usable?

Also, I suppose another option is to crimp-on new ends to my current wires, but that would require figuring out how to buy these connectors. They don't look like the standard distributor ones, so I don't think places like Summit carry them.

MKIII and MKIV VW 2.0 motors use those wires

Looks like Ford EDIS connectors as well.

In reply to NEALSMO:

Yep, looks like they use the same connector (vr6, too). That's a good option if they're long enough. Looks like the wire for the #4 cylinder on the VW is really short, but it might be long enough.

In reply to Stefan:

Those use a big clippy thing like this: These are a normal rubber boot with a pin in the middle.

If you need length the VR6 wires are your solution

They do have a weird connector on the spark plug side though. I have a few spares laying around...

Yup, same as one as Ford.

The last of the red block Volvo 700's might have used those, and I know the 850's did.

Or have some custom ones made. Magnecor doesn't charge much for full on custom work. You just tell them how long and what ends you want.

In reply to mck1117:

Not all of the Ford EDIS ones have those clips and the clips come off if you want them to.

The VR6 plug wires look like they have the resistors built into the wires and not the plugs. So you have to make sure to use the proper spark plug style with those wires.

In reply to Stefan:

Today I learned that there are two generations of EDIS. 2nd gen has the correct connectors.

In reply to NEALSMO:

I looked at the VR6 ones, but I don't think they'll fit as there's a turbo/firewall/AC dryer in the way if the plug-end connectors are too long.

In reply to Streetwiseguy:

Indeed they are. I'd assumed that they'd use the same connectors as on the 240, but they don't. Ordered a set!
