I'm starting to think tool rolls could be a good solution for managing an endurance racing team. I could keep designated sets for front suspension, rear suspension, engine, and they could be more easily packed in the cramped car than a toolbox

Have you made your own? Did you buy some? Do you hate them? I know Boxo makes them, but they're a bit pricey for the use case I'm envisioning

We had a discussion about these a year or so ago.

I ended up buying one of these based on recommendations, but I haven't fully kitted it out yet.

Not a roll per se but - when we did our off road thing we carried a small tool bag with some selected tools that could get us back to a pit if the issue was not a major thing.

I love tool rolls. I have two wrench rolls - SAE and metric - and a tool roll that is usually packed with random tools.

The wrench rolls aren't expensive, they're $20-ish depending on how many slots you want. I keep mine on the wall of my shop on pegs so they're easy to access. When I go to the track, I just unhook 'em, roll them up and go. The fact that each wrench has a slot makes it really easy to tell if one is missing when you're packing up. Well worth the price and I would buy them again if something happened to one. But they're basically indestructible.

That's them on the tan pegboard on the right of the pic. Sockets are on rails for similar reasons and are also hung up the same way. Grey rails for metric, black for SAE.

I have a tool roll I use as well for random stuff, but it doesn't have a job when I'm at home so no pics. I did have it in the car during the Targa Newfoundland so I could do roadside repairs if necessary. Pretty handy, and if you have enough redundant tools I like the idea of having one pre-stocked for each type of job. Mine is a similar type to this one. Definitely limited with regards to the size of tools, it's good for screwdrivers and the like, less so for hammers and pry bars.

I made this one up to keep in my 2002 using a mix of factory BMW toolkit stuff and various other tools of mysterious origin, stuffed in this roll from Amazon.

You can't see it, but there's a set of socket holders on the right-hand side. I've since bought a couple more and fitted them out to keep in other cars with more random duplicates from my collection, and filled in with appropriate stuff from HF and Amazon as needed. I don't use them regularly, but they're very handy to have when you need them.

Bucket Boss has a few pretty decent tool rolls.  https://bucketboss.com/collections/tool-rolls

I had one from Craftsman that worked well. Not sure where it went, however. Or if it’s even still available.

I used a carhartt for a while before I had a tool box. It's a great way to put a bunch of random tools together and be able to carry them. I had a few issues with tolls falling out so I recommend the kind that have fold out flaps. Not a huge problem but worth noting.

I paired my roll with a few zip pouches that carried sockets and smaller stuff like that. Worked fairly well.

Everything was on Amazon and was affordable.
