Very interested to know what this rear end is called, what it's out of, if it's any good, if it's worth anything?
for anyone curious, it's in this:
any help greatly appreciated!

Wild guess would be old Mercedes. Based on one swing axle, and what appears to be a 17mm allan head filler plug.

Well, it IS German.
If you seenk mein car is veird, you should check out mein rear end!

Yep. My 54 chevy has an 8.2 "weak" 10 bolt because it was free and the right width.
In reply to Saron81 :
Trust me, you do not want inboard disc. Zero advantage and huge PITA factor. People would actually scrap XJs because the cost of doing rear brakes was more than the car was worth at the time.
That looks exactly like a stick axle the Germans would build.
Wir werden uns in der Mitte biegen lassen. Ist ja besser?

Technically correct!
Because the suspension acts like a swing axle, the center spring acts like a Z bar: it holds the car up while not interfering with articulation.
It's not an anti-sway bar, it's a pro-sway bar.

Off topic, but would you consider gears and posi swap on a 8.2 10-bolt? My El Camino needs to be faster. Or should I shop for a 8.5 or 12-bolt...
For a brief moment it looked suspiciously like the effen getrag POE36M3 that resides
in the bowels of the 'V' that ....yes needs to be replaced.....again.......#4

Gears and richmond lsd are $5xx and that's what i'm planning to do. They're not really weak per se, unless you believe everything the internet tells you.
Thanks for all the info! The owner has been wondering what it was from for 5+ years, I knew one of you guys would know haha!
That reminds me of the rear axle that was in my '64 220S Mercedes. My best memory is that it was a swing type axle on just 1 side. Never understood why.
