Funny how everyone here is trying to get under 3000lbs... for me, anything under 4000lbs is considered "light," since I'm so used to driving cars heavier than 4000lbs (X5, Range Rover, 750il). Granted, I'm more into drag racing than racing with turning, so my opinions are irrelevant.

Yes. Short wheelbase is good for making a car nimble, but not as good for stability and smoothness at high speed.

If you want it to be a decent street car then it's going to be difficult or costly to save much weight. I think power is typically cheaper than more extensive weight loss modifications. Most cars have a semi-similar amount of weight you can remove, cut out, etc until you start getting into stuff that costs. Luxury oriented cars typically have more weight you can remove.

I think the best bet is to start with something lighter and remove weight and add power.
