Good morning from the road.

Got some good transit practice in yesterday towing from Texas to Illinois...870 miles over 15 hours.

Six more hours today to South Bend for registration and sticker day.  Plus the all-important "drivers meeting" at the bar.

For background, if you haven't been following...here's a thread on the rebuild/refresh of this legendary steed.

I just realized it's been nearly a year since I drove the car, and that was with a different drivetrain and no aero. My first few laps are going to be fun!

Good luck guys. Looks like the weather will be friendly for the western leg.

Holler if you need anything as you come though the Nebraska. I'd be out to hastings but I've got a track day at I-29 that day (Previously known as RPM and MAM)

I had been hoping to get up to High Plains for Monday but once again working for a living will be interfering with race track stuff.  We'll that and I need to get my car ready to race there on the 18th.

In reply to DWNSHFT :

New owner is putting a lot of $$$ into the track and it's getting better every time I'm there. They have about 20 days scheduled this year between their own open track days and the HR motorsports events. It's great to see with HPT closing.

I highly encourage anyone to play hookie for a day and go spectate the event.  Spectating is free!

Day #1 is Saturday.

Make note, these are roughly 7am to 3pm events and the earlier you arrive, the better

The format is...

Drivers arrive at the track at 6:30a.  The track typically opens for walking at 7am.  First cars go off at 8:30...promptly.

This 7am-8am-ish gives drivers a chance to walk the track.  Some bring bikes, some bring scooters, some just plain ole walk.  You see, one of the rules is "no test laps" in your car.  But, track preview can be done by manual means and non electric scooters and bikes are "manual."

At 8:30 the track goes hot.  Cars are launched is spaced groups of 4 or 5 cars per group.  The 1st lap is a recon-run.  You could say this is your chance to "see" the track.  After that first un-timed lap, cars line up, on-track, before the starting line.  One car at a time is launched with the intention of ample distance between cars so that passing or traffic wont be an issue (if everyone stays on-track and on-line.)  The competition is purely your own best lap time for 3 laps.   Let me clarify, it is not your best single lap time of the three.  No, all laps count.  It's your time for covering the track 3 times.

From 8:30a-11:30 the timing team will get every car out for a 3 lap run.  This is the morning session.  Lunch for about 30 minutes and then the afternoon session will start at 12:30 and will be completed roughly by 3:30 (if all is going smoothly and without incident.)  This is a rain or shine event and weather can be a factor where some ran on a wet track and others on a dry track.  If weather is extreme, Brock holds supreme authority to shorten or cancel run groups.  Also interesting, Bock uses his own expert timing crew at each track.

Once cars have completed their afternoon session they are free to get on the road and advance to the next day's track.  Car are assigned a car number solely by Brocks own "seeding" system of who he expects to the fastest.  #1 is always last year's winning driver though that driver may be in a different car.  For the first track day's run-order cars line up in order of Brock's seeding.   The added importance of track day #1 is that the place you finish on track day #1 will determine the run-order for the rest of the week.

As a spectator, what this means is that at 12:30 the fastest cars will take the track for their afternoon session and by 1:00 those fast cars will be leaving the track and hitting the highway.  So, if you arrive to spectate at 2:30 you'll see the slowest cars take the track and 30 minutes later, no one will be there.

Sadly, I couldn't get away to join this year for the week.  Further more sad yet, the cars will be 2 hours away from me at PittRace on Thursday and getting away for the day is just not in the cards.

Have a great week, y'all.

Weird question, but what is the tire breakdown?  Like how many people on yoks, stones, falkens, ps4s?
