5spd, listing says 1st and 2nd are missing?
Could this just be a clutch or pressure plate misbehaving?

link no worky.........chances are it'd be the gearbox. Which is dirt cheap for a 4cyl car, and respectably cheap for a v6 car

Sure, $750-900 sounds good versus a running and driving one for under 3k.........but that deserved to be in a junk yard years ago....

One of the shifter gromets could have come off or disintegrated. $15 at the Ford dealer.
Check under the rear of the car, my brother's '00 Contour developed major rust issues (gas tank straps, springs, spring perches, etc.)
