How about one of Norman Garrett’s Miata Club of America shift knobs? IIRC, he wanted Mazda to install a knob like this, but for whatever reason, they didn’t. It’s made of some sort of resin. Never gets hot, perfect size. It’s now retro and also totally tied to the Miata. I’ve had this one in the Garage Rescue Miata for many years.

No idea where to get one today, but my brother bought one off eBay many years ago.

I have been trying to find my shift knob I had on my NA many years ago and this is the first image I've seen of it, thank you!  Explains why I could never find where to buy it.

There was a persistent story back in the day that those knobs were off a pot. Norman has debunked that but it does give a possible alternate source for resin knobs :)

And this 2" knob is $9.47 from Grainger.  But no pattern on top.

2" implement knob

Maybe.  Just maybe.

What's the diameter of that one, David?

I just got a new shift knob from these guys for my Suzuki SX4; https://www.twistedshifterz.com/

The one I got specifically is this guy; Subaru WRX shift knob - black, 2"

I haven't actually used it yet as the car is in dry dock getting some suspension maintenance work done, but it felt great in hand and looked pretty good.  For the money I couldn't fault it.  They have a ton of shift knobs.  Grain of salt, I just got the thing, so YMMV.

FYI, the thread is 10X1.25mm. All the McMaster ones use the coarse 10x1.5mm. You might have to get an untapped one or do some sort of finangling. McMaster does sell an M10x1.25 to M8x1.25 threaded adapter if you want a taller shifter.https://www.mcmaster.com/92499A827/

My favorite shift knob - the Voodoo Magnum - is just under 2" in diameter.

Could you measure height too please?  I remember it was actually pretty light, but I may try making some myself.  Here is a picture of mine on my car from a few years ago.

You can run a 10x1.25 tap in a 10x1.5 hole and end up with a double threaded hole.

I wouldn't trust it to hold a wheel on or something, but 10-15 years of experience suggests that it works just fine for a shift knob.
