I humbly submit my own work:

It's based on a 1975 Ford LTD chassis and drivetrain, so while ratty, it's not (too) unsafe.

Post the link to the build thread! I had so much fun reading it!

https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/build-projects-and-project-cars/the-plymford/144838/page1/

EDIT: Note, no "sleeve" on my arm.  In fact, driver [me] has zero tattoos.

berkeley, I really want to work on the Rice Rod again. It's been 18 months since I last did anything to it. Wonder how rusty the unpainted, unfinished frame is...

Love this thread and discussion though.

One of my favorite modern built roadsters: CLICK FOR BUILD THREAD

"25 T Ford roadster body, I will build a spaceframe chassis and attach the sheet metal to it in a similar fashion to a Lotus. It will use a solid axles front and rear with quarter elliptic springs. It will use a Suzuki 1.3 dohc mated to a Samurai 5-speed. In an attempt to keep it simple and look period I will fabricate an intake and use twin SU carbs or a single Weber."

If I had the motivation to start another in depth project, I think something similar to this would be awesome, but I'd keep fuel injection and hide the exhaust if possible.

This to me is the perfect rod. Hot rods are all about personal expression so I won't say any other look is right or wrong. But I loooove this.

Mike Burrough's E28 was already posted here, which I love. His most recent project is probably more related, and so amazing. I love it!

Aural inspiration. 13 year old video and I've yet to find one that puts a smile on my face faster.

I've been thinking about this car off and on for years.  It's based on a Spitfire Chassis, with some other British Car "tub"

This really does it for me.

Here's my scratch built project that may (or may not) fit into the category:

Is that a Miata???

and that make me think of the Jeep/Miata hybrid thing a while back. I think it was a YJ with miata suspension and driver train?

There was a guy not far from me about 10 years ago that built a "rat rod" out of a Chevy Luv truck chassis and engine, using the cowl and little more from a 20's truck.

The entire thing was built to make fun of the intentionally absurd "rat rod" nonsense.   It had some great details though..  The Ford on the radiator shell was additionally embossed to read "afFORDable".   Vintage tin cans around the oil filter and Alternator.   Burlap seats, and a really interesting iron twin size bed headboard separating the cab from the bed.

I thought it was hilarious at the time..   now it would just fit right in.

I don’t particularly agree with it but much to the contrary, I know plenty of COPS with full sleeve tattoos.

In my (pretty insignificant) opinion, your entire post was way to presumptive and judgmental.

(And that’s coming from someone who drives a simple Chevy pickup and has zero tattoos and never will)

You're right.  I had a lot of pissed-off hormones floating around or whatever due to circumstances beyond the scope of this post, and it wasn't really called for.

The Tarantual by Tredwear is pretty cool. It's an old dirt track Chevy car that they updated the chassis and graphics on, but it is driven hard and performs

Ed Umland's '34 Coupe is borderline rat. It's another old dirt track body, that he stripped to bare steel, put a Funny Car-spec cage and a twin turbo 598ci Chevy in and mounted the radiator out back. Its street legal, frequently street-driven and has blasted 7.50s on easy launches.

What an awesome response. (I’m sure I’ve said things like that out loud - my wife is sure to call me out every time - and it’s always a matter of my mood as well)

That said, I actually do get annoyed - until I remind myself that I shouldn’t care - when some of the owners of these rat rods try so damned hard to look as if they don’t care while clearly spending a weeks salary on their outfits!

And while I’m at it, please stop using brass knuckles and wrenches etc. as car parts. And since I collect antique license plates, please stop cutting them up to make your dashboard and firewalls. /rant
