I've got an afternoon to kill in Los Angeles, which seems like the perfect opportunity to meet some west-coast GRMers.
Ideally, this would be a low-key event where a few of us meet at a restaurant, have lunch, and talk about cars. Nothing fancy.
Locals: Any interest? And any recommendations for a restaurant?
These events have been fun when they've happened in Florida and in the Midwest, so why not do one in LA, too.
Yes, that would be great! Wish I could make it but I'm gonna be in Maui that week. I'd probably make the drive otherwise...
Let us know when you're gonna be in the SF Bay Area and I'll be there for sure.
I'm no longer an Angeleno, but there are some great feedbags out there.
If you're looking for something iconic (but usually a heck of a wait):
- Pink's hot dogs
- Canter's Deli
- Musso & Frank
If you're looking for something just yummy and want to skip the lines:
- Palermo's on Vermont
- El Cid
- Yang Chow (get the slippery shrimp)
- Claim Jumper
- Sisleys
If you're looking for something fast food, but want it to be uniquely West Coast,
- In n Out Burger
- Pad Thai Bistro
The other nice thing about L.A. is that ever five or ten blocks you're in some other ethnic community: Little Ethiopia, Koreatown, Croatian Place, Little Armenia, Little Bangladesh... I mean you name it, it's there. Pick a cuisine you've never tried and go there. When I lived there (for about 6 years) my wife and I always picked a day each month to try a different ethnic cuisine in L.A. In 70+ months, we didn't get to all of them.

Don't forget a chili cheeseburger from Tommy's...
I did one of these with Tim years ago here in MA and it was a great time!!!! My son still talks about that day and the Factory 5 visit.

Mark your calendars now: Classic Motorsports Monterey Kickoff.
Gotta clear my calendar. This could (will) be fun.
Oh yeah, Musso & Frank doesn't open until 4:00 on Sundays. The Peterson Museum has a cafe, and there are a ton of good dim sum and sushi places. Ye Dang for Korean food will restructure your chromosomes. Wahoo's Fish Tacos is a go-to too.
I'm interested - what part of LA are you thinking of?
I should be able to make it.
I'm by lax and there are some great places here but that's me being selfish.
If doing it close to the airport is advantageous, we can meet here in el segundo at rock and brews.
otherwise post the preferred meeting area and we can find a good place!
Did I just completely kill the buzz?
if so, then fortunately for you I can't make it!
but I'm bummed....
Sorry guys--I missed the later responses and ended up getting delayed, anyway. We'll have to try this again next time.
Sorry about that!
Delayed??? Are you going to be around tomorrow?? You can reach out to me directly if easier.
