The good news is that the cars are faster and there are fewer deaths If "simpler" means "more likely to die in a fiery crash", then yes. But it seems to me that would be pretty complicated for everyone involved.

I have cars that can be driven to the track, raced and driven home. It's still possible.

Yep! Both of my racecars CAN do that.

But I'm not exactly running in F1 either.

F1 was the exception to the rule even in the "good old days". Amateur road racing, on the other hand, can still be done with a car that's driven to the track.
