Hey all,
I am starting to re-assemble a 1st gen RX7 transmission, and have run into an issue right off the bat. When I tapped the clutch hub onto the shaft behind the gear and synchro, the gear no longer spins on the shaft. So, I tapped the hub back a little and the gear freed up. Then, as I continued stacking the assembly and tapped on the bearing and next clutch hub into place, and while the second gear in the stack spins fine, the first gear I installed is again not spinning freely.
I am assuming the hub is too far onto the shaft and causing too much pressure between the synchro ring and the cone on the gear. The Mazda manual does not speak to how to tap the clutch hub onto the splines regarding how far to tap it on. There doesn't appear to be a "stop" for the hub to seat against. So, how do I know when the hub is placed correctly? I could try to tap it back again to free up the gear (although not sure it protrudes enough to tap against, but doesn't all this affect end play?
Thanks
