That model is actually one of the most expensive. They usually go for around $7500 for a driver, way more than a beater carbed 2 door.

Are you saying that it's just expensive? Or that it might actually be somewhat reliable?

Rare because it's a fuel injected 4 door, and more reliable than the carbed ones. That model is supposed to be the best of the us spec biturbos.

Don't take this the wrong way... but is that like winning the Special Olympics? Or is this actually a reliable car?

Would this have 188, 190, or 225hp?

As to Reliability

Road and Track 8/1990 said: Reliability "There's little doubt that a series of niggling problems with the first-edition Biturbos helped dash the model's early popularity. Mis-set carburetor float levels caused the engines to stumble during left turns, pickup wires in the distributors cracked from the heat, water ran through cylinder sleeves, fluids leaked from faulty seals throughout the drivetrain, fuse boxes melted, and coolant temperature warning lights came on even when engines weren't over-heating. Clutches, timing-belt tensioners and water pumps had to be redesigned early on. It was quite disheartening. Nonetheless, it's amazing a small company like Maserati with no experience in volume production fared as well as it did with the Biturbo. In fact, while the Biturbo's failings were always annoying, they were usually not serious. And nearly all the car's bugs were eventually worked out with upgraded parts. ... Most notable of all, our experts wholeheartedly agree that the basic Biturbo engine -- the block, pistons, etc. -- is virtually indestructible."

Pretty sure it's 190.

Lol reliable for an Italian car is about all I would say. Reliable enough to dd if you have a backup, but will take regular work to keep working.

I had one, it never ran. I threw cash at parts and then more parts. I sold it, bought 400i automatic and laughed that a $9k eBay Ferrari was a better buy than ANYTHING! The red one does make me remember how sexy they are though.

I forgot that I had looked at a Spyder here in town, my wife just looked over my shoulder and said there is that blue one. Troublemaker.

Put a RWD F2T set-up in it when it breaks.

I know how you feel 92CelicaHalfTrac, that same Biturbo keeps haunting my craiglist searches... The 4 door models are pretty rare and from what I hear the one to have.

That was the plan.... but the catch is that i'd be trading my MX6 for it. I want MY F2T in that car, because MY F2T is a freak.

I have a friend who has converted one into a track car. Has some little known parts such as the factory intercooler, extremely rare. Most of the suspension and brakes are no longer stock. Engine is. Goes quite well, too. He started out with it basically stock and then built it as he found what it needed. A lot.

As long as it is car work I dont mind. Working on my own projects cost money, which I have little of...

Now back to your regularly scheduled Biturbo horror stories!

Not dumb. Mine is down to a freak accident of poor luck - yea yea, I know, it is a Biturbo....

I've been driving the X1/9, hopefully I can get the Biturbo back on the road sometime soon.

I still want to get one, or a Citroën SM. I would likely keep my Mercedes too though. Having the Milano was fun on nice days, but trying to dd a car with no heater and barely functional headlights wasn't fun at all.
