Following a green MG today and we turned onto an empty, divided, 4 lane road with limited access points. I figured I'd blow past this ancient British roadster in my surprisingly lively Miata. (Other drags have ended astonishingly well)
No such luck, this dude stayed slightly ahead (I was gaining slowly but not passing) until he let off at just over 100.
Earlier in the day I had seen a factory V8 MG at the Concours car show, I'm guessing we had an encounter on the street..... Kinda cool.

Very cool.
I'm not familiar with any V8 that MG created. That's a very strange angle for a valve cover. Do they have insane rockers or something or is the valve cover just triangular to better show off the logo?
MG didn't build B convertible V8's. Could be a Costello conversion or something more home grown.

Could very well have been a GM V6. A lot of those conversions have been done over the last few years since there is a well developed kit.
Pretty sure that's a Rover/Buick V8. I'm not completely sure but seems to be the V8 setup from the GT without SU carbs. Experts can correct and my feelings will stay intact.
SU's would be a pair of small air cleaners. Plus I think that's an Edelbrock intake which pretty well rules out SU's. Probably not the exhaust headers that came from Rover, either.
I was going to say that those rockers look similar to the ones on my disco (minus the MG logo)
Yep Rover V8, similar to me 4.6 Range Rover
Aluminum Rover V8 is a common swap. I know of a shop that does them up here.

For those that like MG V8 swaps, this will keep you busy for the day.

You might not have noticed if it was one of the factory V8 swaps, they were pretty anemic. 135 hp comes to mind.

And they only came in Hardtop flavor. A V8 MG might have a chance of pulling away early since it will have the low-end torque advantage over a Miata, but I figure the Miata should be able to keep up as the pace picks up.
Could have also had a Moss supercharger, I think they end up with a pretty similar power number as a NA Miata.
Found out the truth. He's a local fabricator and the car has an LT-1 under the hood. Mystery solved.
