I am about finished building a recreation of the BMC factory race car RMO 699F which was one of two MGC GTS Sebring cars prepared in 1968 and 1969. It will be raced in time trials in the US on the east coast in 2011.
Externally the car will be an exact replica. However, the suspension is totally modern, the engine is a Toyota 1JZ GTE double turbo with straight pipes off each turbo and an APEX Power FC ECU for dyno tuning. The build is documented in BRITISH V8 under Journals or type MGC GTS 1JZ in Google for several sites.

I decided to use a 1973 MGBGT for this project rather than an MGCGT because I wanted a traditional front suspension and the MGCGT without much rust was only $1,000 minus an engine and transmission. I stripped the car to a bare frame, sandblasted and built it it from there with fiberglass Sebring replica fenders. The engine and transmission are now installed, suspension done and we are working on a custom adjustable steering installation.
Initial dyno should be in March, with track testing at the end of April at New Hampshire

Sounds neat! You might want to check with VRG and see if they'd let you run it at the NH Vintage in May (they are a pretty open-minded vintage group).
