The long and boring saga of my NB1 is coming to a close, as I now have a grotty NB2 engine running in it. Everything works except for the VVT system, which I don't have any way to control at the moment and I'm out of money for an ECU or piggyback for the near future. Is there any risk of hurting anything if I just leave it unplugged? What if I flog on it?
I know your funds are limited, but a Power Enterprise cc-101 could help control the VVT-i intake cam.
You're fine leaving it unplugged. The cam runs in full retard when the solenoid is inactive. You're just losing out on some midrange torque. It does make a pretty noticeable difference once you get it working.
IIRC, DiYAuto still makes a standalone VVT controller might be an option until you're ready for an ECU.
