Miata NA - removing 3rd member from diff?

Hopefully I got the terminology correct... It's my first time partially disassembling a diff. 

 I have a spare 1.6 rear diff. I was told that an aftermarket LSD was installed into it. The previous owner thinks it is a Mazda Competition LSD. I'd like to remove the 3rd member from the differential housing to take a look at it and confirm what I have in case an aftermarket LSD like an OSG was installed. 
 

Can I just unbolt the 3rd member and pull it out of the housing and reinstall? I read about shims and backlash but I'm not sure if any of that would be affected in the Miata diff.

Yes, you can just unbolt the bolts(nuts) around the pumpkin, pull it out and have a look, just like a Ford 9".
