My buddy had 2 SHO's. I'm pretty sure he feels the same way.
We owned a 93. Never had any head gasket/overheating problems.
I did have to change the Heater fan. Not that big a deal, did all the work with the car on jack stands (Just to raise it higher.) The work probably took 4 hours, including driving to our local salvage yard.
