One of my favorite ones from overseas is the Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg: 1.8l 175 HP Civic Type R fighter with the Helical Diff in it. Ton of fun to drive in a package that is EG civic sized. Drove one in europe in the early 2000's and just loved it.
Oh JDM opens a ton of other possibilities!
The FTO was an oddball, most probably only know of it from Gran Turismo. A weird FWD driven V6 powertrain. The FTO and others are now eligible for importing. Looks like the Mirage Cyborg was made in 1995 (?) and is also now eligible!
Old car buddy of mine imported a few of these through his company. looky
